Pammy's 928 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge New American • $$$$
928 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge

“My wife and I found ourselves stuck in Cambridge as a result of certain family entanglements. We were feeling glum with no bright options for spending the evening. THEN.... we stumbled into Pammys and things went technicolor. We were seated at the southeast end of bar and were almost immediately sipping a 29 degree Martini and an Oaxaca Old Fashioned. In addition to being a really great bar full of fashionable, chatty and probably interesting local people, Pammy's also has a full menu of really great food including asparagus served with a cured egg yolk and a circle of something very tasty that resembles a large egg white cut into a slice. We also tried crispy mushrooms, some fish, pasta, bread pudding and some really delicious bread (which is offered free of charge, at least at the bar.) The staff of the restaurant, including a woman who I believe was the Eponymous Pammy of Pammys, were all very friendly and made us feel welcome being in Cambridge. We met a very nice person from Maine which was another exciting wrinkle to the experience. We will definitely go back the next time life throws us a curveball and we are stuck in the Boston metro area. A big thanks to Pammys for salvaging our night!”

“We ordered scallop ceviche, ensalada de remolacha, chuletas de Cordero, puerco asado, ropa vieja, and Santiago sour. The Santiago sour drink, I thought was really good. Not too sour, and it goes well with our dishes. The scallops ceviche was OK. IT wasn't anything special. It was missing something. The beet salad and the lamb chop are a must! The slow braised pork with rice and salad is good, too.We never got our ropa vieja even though we ordered it. When the bill came out, we noticed that we were charged with ropa vieja. We spoke to our waitor and he took off the bill.Service was good. The meals came out fast for the most part until the ropa vieja. My drink came out with a broken piece of glass at the bottom, so it was fine. It wasn't in the drink.Overall, the food was good. It does get busy on the weekend. Good date place. The food prices were reasonable. FYI, there is a kitchen service fee when you get your bill. There are plenty of parking spaces in the back.”

“I liked this brewery. The interior design was kind of industrial noir but with a friendly feeling and the layout for seating was done well. Very excited I got a seat at the window bar top. Bar staff were friendly and knowledgeable. They had a unique selection of beer, a few good choices with high ABV, and some beer types I’ve never heard of. I didn’t get one but they do offer flights. They also had a selection of games you could play at your table. The street parking was tricky but that’s because of the Cambridge and not the brewery’s fault.”

The tacos were meh but I'm rarely impressed by tacos. Liked the dip itself but didn't like how we given normal waffle fries with the dip rather than the potato waffles I had seen in pics. “We came here for Easter dinner with a group of 4. The seating area is warm and comfortable while still feeling a bit more upscale - a great location for a date night or special occasion. We enjoyed the dishes overall and appreciated that you could get a glimpse into the kitchen from the dining room. What we ordered: - Tuna crudo: Interesting flavors. The fish tasted fresh but could have used some more acidity. - Fried hen-of-the-woods mushrooms: Nice, crisp, and well seasoned. - Sautéed heirloom carrots: The carrots were nicely cooked but the glaze was a bit too sweet. - Seared scallops: The scallops were perfectly seared and paired well with the lentils and sauce. - Phyllo-wrapped cod: We were surprised how crispy this was even though it was sitting in the sauce. The lobster stew was full of flavor. One of our favorites of the night. - Seafood risotto: The risotto was well cooked but the dish could have included more seafood. - Lemon pepper half chicken: The juices of the chicken soaked into the beets to make a delicious bite.”

“Food and atmosphere was so perfect for what we were craving! Last time we came was with a large group, so I think coming with only two people made it a much easier experience. We came during a very busy Friday night and were still able to quickly grab bar seats. Our bartender was very prompt and classy, and made delicious drinks! We started with the burrata on a cake-y bread topped with orange jam. This was probably my favorite dish of the night, perfect balance of sweet and salty. Then we had the carrots, which were crunchy and actually a pretty big portion for two people. Lastly, we tried the duck, which was delicious, but definitely wasn't the best cooked duck I've tried. I personally prefer well cooked meat and theirs was slightly undercooked. For dessert, we tried their plum cake. This felt like it could feed five people because of how dense it was, but it was super yummy. It kind of happened by accident but it worked out great. We got our food incredibly fast! Everything was delicious. However, the tostones and the empanadas were my favorite. I also had a maracuya juice, which was sweet and refreshing. We really liked our waiter, we was very nice and attentive. I wish I remembered his name to give him a shout out. “Little Donkey is an absolute gem. We were there for first seating at 10:30 am on a Sunday. Glad we had a reservation since they were very busy and tables we blocked off by 11:20. Our dishes were delicious and came out pretty quickly. Someone at our table had a nut allergy and every dish was brought out with a clearance of the allergy so that incase she wanted to try other dishes, she knew what was safe. The salmon and Tuna Tartar is delicious, but unbelievably small and honestly not worth the $19. We ordered it to hold us over while waiting for friends who were running behind. It is bare 4 actual bites. We learned from our waiter that most of the items we initially wanted were tiny. This is a really cute spot with an open kitchen which is cool to look into, and the bar tender is great at creating new drink concoctions.”

“That the young man overseeing the entrance and merch counter was reading Sartre’s The Plague was a good sign. So was being located along and near the end of the Somerville Community Path, at least to this cyclist in need of a pit stop. There are three standards by which to rate a microbrewery: food, physical location and quality of beer. Since I only had time (and good sense) for one marzen lager at the bar (tasty and refreshing), and tried none of their food, I can’t rate their beer or food. However, as a place to hang out, either inside—open but small enough to seem cozy, or outside on the patio overlooking The Common, it rates a 5.”

S&S Restaurant 1334 Cambridge St, Cambridge Diner • $$

“A nostalgic deli experience in Inman Square. As the oldest restaurant in Cambridge, S&S has cemented its status as a beloved local spot that serves a wide range of classic deli fares. l came here for lunch a few times and always had a satisfying experience.Among the appetizers, the Chopped Liver was my favorite. Although it was unexpectedly paired with pineapple and melon slices - a combination that didn't entirely complement the inherent sweetness of the liver spread - it was still enjoyable when paired with crackers and red onions. Bathed in their signature sauce, the S&S Fried Shrimp was also good. The sauce leaned more towards sweet rather than spicy, but the jumbo shrimp was still nice and crispy. The Seared Tuna Salad was fairly basic, but with its generous portions, it was an ideal choice for a hearty meal. Corned Beef Reuben came with perfectly toasted marble rye bread, and the corned beef itself was solid. One of the biggest perk of S&S is their own free parking lot, but empty spaces might be hard to come by during peak lunch hours.Overall, a great spot that provides a slice of the city’s culinary history with the timeless appeal of a classic deli. If you’re looking for a comforting meal with a warm, nostalgic atmosphere, I highly recommend giving them a try.Parking: Free street parking lot (enter via Hampshire st)Paid parking lot next to Olé (Springfield st)Paid street parking on Cambridge St & Hampshire st”

“We had a lovely waitress who was very attentive for lunch on Thursday, March 28th and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal of Boneless Short Ribs (Galbi), Boneless Chicken with a pesto sauce (Dak Galbi), Thin Sliced Beef Brisket (Chadolbagi), Short steak (jumulleok), Flank Steak (Chimasal), and vegetables, such as zucchini, mushrooms, peppers, and other veggies. We started with miso soup that was excellent, a large salad that we shared with horseradish dressing, and a bowl of rice. The Korean BBQ uses charcoal which gives the meat a more authentic flavor. The meat was thinly sliced and marinated before cooking. Korean BBQ grills are designed to be used indoors, and when the grill started getting pieces of food stuck, our waitress, removed the grill and gave us a new grill. There were three sauces to enjoy with the meat which were teriyaki, ponzu, and spicy sauce. We very much enjoyed the experience, and spent two hours enjoying our meal. My colleague is from Seoul, and she knows an authentic barbecue restaurant, and I chose the restaurant because of all the positive reviews. We will be back again! Thank you so much for a wonderful meal! Our sincere thanks!”

But the store has a good selection of grab-and-go items from sushi, to drinks, to other merch like soy sauce and snacks.FOOD:~Chef's Sampler (5/5) and Signature Set (5/5): each of these sets came with 5 pieces of nigiri, and they were all so good. Each of them were topped with a unique seasoning/sauce, and they accompanied each of the fish so well!Salmon don (5/5): came with a great assortment of salmon, all of it very fresh (salmon belly was my fave). But the star of this dish to me was the ikura and the cucumbers. SO DELICIOUSGreat quality sushi, great portions, delicious flavors, and affordable prices! Definitely a must visit!”

“Came for Dine Out Boston! Their lunch menu was a good deal at $36 since normal entrees are already around $30. Pasta and desserts were the best parts of the meal. Good service and upscale casual environment. * Apps: salmone affumicato, panzanella salad. The salmon was nicely smoked but a bit boring. Panzanella was meh but I generally don't like salads. * Entrees: rigatoni norcina, veal scaloppini. The rigatoni was perfectly al dente with the yummiest truffle cream sauce. SKIP the veal--so chewy and weird, almost like dog food. * Desserts: torta di mirtilli, panna cotta. Both nice but I preferred the panna cotta.”

“This place brings back the charm and soul of Harvard Square that's been missing for so long, and deserves nothing but five-star reviews IMO. I visited the bar on St. Patrick's Day, and from the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for a treat. The restaurant faces south, so the sun was pouring in, and the vibe was just perfect. The owner greeted us with a smile and showed us to our seats right away. And let me tell you, the menu had something for everyone - even the pickiest of eaters would find something to love here. Since it was St. Paddy's Day, we went all out and ordered the corned beef and cabbage and fish and chips, and boy, were they delicious! I've never had corned beef and cabbage that tasted so good, and the fish and chips were fried to perfection. But that's not even the best part - a live band started playing at 4 PM, and the music was fantastic (I can't recall the band that was there tonight but it was Bon Iver Vibes A++). They have live music every Sunday. It's a top-notch spot that I can't wait to go back to again and again.”
