Mediocre food, the trout was the best thing we ate but at over $30 you should get more than a bite. I was so hopeful for the foie gras, what a bland dish . The maple soufflé was weak just egg and sugar at $22 not worth it, really challenging to finish a meal that way. Perhaps given the fact that we are big fans of le patite four and now have the luxury of enjoying amazing French pastries all the time near Boston anything shy of great French dessert is a major disappointment, especially at these prices . The duck was prepared well, slightly under done. Very attentive, Waite staff big kudos to them as probably the best part of the experience. Sit upstairs definitely don't sit downstairs, which is more of a transitional bar area. People bring their kids and that kind of stuff. It's been a while since we've gone out for French cuisine and this place was a bit of a letdown in terms of quality/experience. I respect the fact that it's hard to be a restaurant serving people cuisine and getting it right every night but when you're paying $300 bucks for dinner, it should put a smile on your face.

We loved the food, and our waiter was fantastic. We liked the music, but the dining room downstairs was a little cold both temperature wise and visually. The upstairs area seemed much warmer, so we will request that next time.

Overall the experience was quite good. However, the duck confit was undercooked and tough. It was hardly confit. I sent it back to be cooked more but that didn't help. Don't order the duck.

A great birthday party was made even better with the great service and food. Bistro continues to be a must visit for me. Thank-you to everyone for our evening.

I went here with here for my girlfriends birthday and we loved it! The wait staff was great, the ambiance made it comfortable to dine and the food was delicious! A great French fine dining experience, we'll be back!

Food and drinks were great. It was not to crowded, and they sat us next to a very loud table. That was disappointing. For the price, I was expecting a little more attentive service.

Love coming in to the bar for a cocktail or a glass of wine off their excellent wine list. The bistro burger is amazing and the fries, oh the fries! Seasoned to perfection. The bartenders are always attentive with excellent recommendations.

Excellent restaurant with a good selection of dishes. The french onion soup was very good but it was the chicken schnitzel dish that really impressed me.

Good portion sizes and attentive staff. This is a nice venue to meet with friends and have a good chat with a good meal. Fair price for the quality of the food and venue.

The quality of food there was amazing. We never had to wait long for service, and the staff was very friendly

I really wanted to enjoy my experience here, but the night was disappointing from start to finish. I asked for a cocktail twice and never received it, so I eventually gave up and stuck with a Diet Coke. Being charged $18 for two refills on a soda is unbelievable, especially when the bill is already $200+ for dinner.

The food didn’t make up for it either. My filet came out charred, and the rest of the dishes were just mediocre. For the price point, I expected much better. Unfortunately, the poor service and overall mid food mean I won’t be coming back

Apps were great. Seated on time. Asked for a drink 3 times and never got it. Charged $18 for a Diet Coke with 3 refills. Halibut was good. Filet mignon was charred and tough. Would have expected more for a $250 meal.

Ah we are locals and last went here about 15 years ago but the fact that this was not a real French restaurant nor very good at its fusion attempts as we thought made us not return. We are still looking for really sophisticated food in Boston particularly with the sad demise of a few really creative ones and recent reviews made us return. The bistro is still a mix of what Americans are supposed to like (huge portions and that pretense of “continental” food ) but it doesn't quite work. Should be a pretty elegant place but the charming waitstaff bring out dishes and serving ware for the main course before you are finished with the first and tend to snatch plates away as if there is a line waiting to get in. The food itself is created more or less with French chef technique but oddly. We had the “bouillabaise” which had salmon in it with crisp skin so I suppose the fish was all cheffily prepared separately and the salmon and clawed lobster added the New England touch-and added to the broth at the end. Some of the shellfish was a little overcooked and the broth tasted more like a not so great Portuguese seafood soup than true bouillabaise- no depth of flavor- and I have made and eaten both at their sites of origin as well as many other restaurants as well as in my own home. We still haven't figured out what we were supposed to do with the shredded cheese on the side and just ignored it. The bread served initially also was more Portuguese in texture than French. The dessert was a dacquoise and was lovely and authentic. We guess that 4 years at le bernardin drove the chef away from that superb and authentic technique rather than toward it. Our loss- the world does need to advance but serving dishes like tuna tartar or weird salads that are totally not of the midi for instance is banal and not creative.

Beautiful space, great meal and service! Met a friend I hadn't seen in ages and we were not rushed, even though we lingered for a long time!

a lovely civilized lunch in the middle of a work day... the service was outstanding: inobtrusive yet efficient... perhaps bring out more than just 2 slices of bread for 2 people both having soup and a main dish... the food was very solid. a lovely atmosphere upstairs in a beautiful setting... even made me forget the little children allowed to run around uncontrolled. 😉

Just had afternoon tea. Food was excellent (despite a small plastic mini tube like item on dessert plate and a small piece of strawberry on the side of a cup) as always and I’ve been a fan of Bistro du Midi for quite some time. My server was lovely as he was my server a few years ago also.
However, the 1 star is for the manager who I saw was checking on other tables and totally ignored me. Not looking for special treatment: only for EQUAL treatment as others and he totally failed at it.
I’m manager at a restaurant so I understand hospitality and the lack of in this case. He was checking on a table of 4 multiple times but never stopped even once to ask me how I was doing.
That showed he valued certain guests over others and that’s not good. Only a few occupied tables when I was having tea so it was not like a full house and he couldn’t stop at each table. So now he made certain guests feel bad because he was treating guests differently.
An attentive manager would have also asked if I got social media account since I was taking lots of photos and videos with my phone and camera. And if i was helping them post (for free by the way as I was not seeking discounts or anything free or extra.)
