Brassica is terrific -- excellent food, staff, and (especially in new location) ambience. Definitely not the cheapest, but not insane and fair value for the high quality.
It's been four years since we were at Brassica. Also, the first time we were in the new Brassica. The food was phenomenal as it used to be. The service, not that it was bad before, but it's really really good now. And even though I missed the intimacy of the other place, having a little bit more space between the tables and more room to move around for the weight staff is really nice. But let's be clear. People come here for the food and the food is the best I've had in Boston in the past year. The crème brûlée w Foie for dessert was an outrageously good surprise The value for this quality of food is fantastic. This is a Michelin noticeable restaurant, even though they chose not to. Hopefully next year. I cannot recommend Brassica enough. The value for this quality of food is fantastic. The crème brûlée Walgra for dessert was an outrageously good surprise
Our experience was excellent. The service attentive and friendly. Food was so interesting and delicious. We tried the pork belly, duck pizza, Brussels sprouts, rigatoni and beef dumplings. Each dish was so good. Rebecca, co owner, was cleaning the table next to us and was so warm and friendly. A perfect dining experience I would highly recommend!
We love going to Brassica, the ride is always a great choice. We enjoyed the NYE menu and vibes in the new space.
This place is outstanding! Small plates and every one of them is unique and so so delicious. Side note - prices include tax and gratuities which I greatly appreciated.
Relaxing welcoming atmosphere !! Wheelchair accessible until a point. Bigger space yes bigger following!! Tons of alcoholic creative beverages to pare with meal or appetizers. Great to meet with life time friends and reminisce. Can't find a bad meal sample and even got to go ! I'll be back warmer weather with my following!
The food was creative in several instances, but the execution wasn't anything to write home about. The doughnut was a unique flavor combination and delicious. The chicken and waffles were pretty basic. I've had better of both items many times from many places. The bisquits and gravy had unique twists with a pretzel biscuit, but the gravy was fairly bland. The papusa was overly salted. The price to quality ratio is off.
My family and I had dinner at Brassica last Sat. Would highly highly recommend this place for several reasons. (a) Eclectic, global menu (b) every dish, be it the rigatoni with chanterelle or the clams in a spicy sauce, the dishes were made to perfection and highly palate pleasing (c) warm and friendly service staff and finally (d) reasonably priced and no service charge. All charges and taxes are billed into the prices on the menu. I so wish other restaurants would follow this practice.
We dined at the new digs for the first time! We were thrilled that our favorites are still delicious (Brussels, beets, and fried chicken) and the new creations blew us away (BK cheese pizza, chanterelle pasta, and chewy noodles). Brassica continues to make some of our absolute favorite food in town.
Great first experience in new location! Love the new space, vibe, and the food and drink were awesome. Look forward to returning with friends!

1. My partner and I have quite literally travelled all over the world and Brassica is still one of our all-time favorite restaurants . . . it's the #1 place we go to when our foodie friends from out of town come to visit, 2. And the new space is SPECTACULAR! It's bright and stylish but still funky and JP and Brassica-esque. The new bar is epic and perfect and huge. And somehow . . . it's LESS NOISY than the old space!!! Hallelujah. And of course the menu is still: Brassica. Koji Risotto. Say no more.

I don’t think the designer kept in mind what Brassica was before they moved. It used to be a hip, quirky spot with an artsy vibe. The new place has its own vibe, but it doesn’t feel like Brassica anymore, and it doesn’t feel like the same restaurant either.
Lighting is bright and a bit chaotic. The space reads as modern, with contractor-white walls, and bookshelves , office like floor. In the bar, you can see the sound system, lighting, and some odd shelves. The fake bar top and the blue floor tiles look like something you’d find in an maybe an office food court or something.. it can read like one of those coworker places or a franchised bar rather than a unique dining experience.
The food is still good, but it doesn’t feel as distinctive or exciting as It use to be.. portions seem a bit bigger too - which isn’t a good thing imo - the redesign lost the essence of what made Brassica special, leaning toward something more generic. I would have loved to have seen them leverage the older bones of the building and use warmer, more tactile finishes (tile, wood, stone) low lights, plants, brick to add character.
Quick fixes:
- Rework the lighting: dim down the general lighting, add a couple warm low vintage lamps, get your vibe back
- Hide or integrate visible tech: conceal the sound system and shelving behind the bar
- Curate the soundtrack: a more cohesive, hip vibe with music - turn it up a bit - supports conversation without overpowering it.

The worst fried rice ever made. Who puts olives in fried rice? This place should be banned from cooking food. They are trying to be creative but have an elementary knowledge of flavor combinations

I recently had a meal at Brassica, and overall, it was a great experience. The risotto was creamy and flavorful, and the pizza had a wonderfully thin crust, very much like a classic New York-style pizza. The rigatoni pasta was tasty, though not particularly standout, but still a solid choice. The fried rice was packed with flavor and really hit the spot.
The BK fried chicken (we ordered the larger portion) was incredibly tender and had just the right amount of sweetness served with a small portion of homemade mustard sauce on the side and lemon wedges, it was definitely a winner.
However, the real star of the show was the Brussels sprouts. They were absolutely fantastic, crispy, perfectly seasoned, and bursting with flavor. Definitely the dish that left the biggest impression, and I’ll be coming back just for those!

Their new place as of Oct 2025: they now add these costs (admin + benefits, they removed the bag fee) to your bill. Your bill is not itemized. I do not like this. The pizza was not good, no spicy flakes, parmesan, no sausage? You have this great wood fired oven but not all the necessities. Service not great. You pay for it anyways. It is a shame that this place is in the neighborhood and I will not be coming back. You should simply pay your employees more instead of pushing these fees onto the customers.
This is the kind of restraunt that I dont understand. 20% fee is mandatory. I tip anyways but don’t make it mandatory. At 20%. And a benefits fee and then a bag fee? Benefits? It just cringes me. I would think that the first impression should be a good one and not immediately about money. The first thing that comes to mind after hearing that is the company is shifting the cost away from them to someone else and you will get bad service. =negative. I’ve read some of the other reviews about these extra costs that are being shoved on to the patrons instead of the company and well you probably pay for it anyways but having those extra cost like the benefits fee, bag fee the admin fee? Just increase your price. When I go to a restaurant I want to see a menu and not these offensive charges on the menu. Its not a good feeling and makes you think they believe you are gullible. I read their response about the bag fee that it’s a city imposed fee and yet another example pushing problems to someone else just like the 20% mandatory gratuity. go to the Dogwood which is 20 meters down the road. They don’t charge those fees as it’s already buried in the price and they don’t immediately offend you with a 20% gratuity as being mandatory and have these offensive notes on their menu. Definitely will avoid. Too hostile for me.
