Great local tavern for food and drink. We often bring our daughter for an early night out. Highly recommend if you’re looking for cocktails, date night, or a family dinner with the little ones.
Good food with limited choices. Had a goat cheese salad with fig balsamic vinegar. Very good. Food came out quickly.
New chef is terrible - pizza isn’t as good as it was, lots of yummy things got removed from the menu and overall food is just not as good. Sad development for a neighborhood spot
I am not one to leave bad reviews, however I feel it is my obligation to save people their time, money and disappointment. Now don’t get me wrong the ambiance and atmosphere is amazing. One of the reasons we went there. The menu was very limited. My mother got the chips queso and salsa. The queso did not have much flavor and was extremely watery. The chips were small broken piece. There was maybe a 1/4 cup of queso and salsa for a lot of chips. My wife and I shared poutine. They gave it and it had maybe 5 pieces of small cheese curd and so much gravy the fries were mush. They didn’t put the shredded cheese either which they described in the description. The wait staff was not hospitable and just short. Over priced. 8 dollars for a 12 oz beer and 4 dollars for 12 oz sodas in a plastic cup. Save your time and money… go somewhere else!
Olive oil citrus cake is a must-have. Will come again.
We stopped here on a whim per recommendations from a couple we spoke to in Jamaica Plains. It is a large venue with lots of breathing room and seating! Cute bar area with lots of options (beer, wine, cocktails, etc). We were just a party of 2 and were quickly seated (around 5:30 PM) without any reservations. Drinks: We both ordered the "Watermelon Rickey" but without alcohol because we were feeling the summer heat!! Super refreshing drink with the watermelon purée - mocktails are perfect this time of year. Food: We started with the "Tempura Cauliflower" which came with a ginger sesame glaze. I think that was our favorite part of the meal. The tempura makes it crispy but you still feel healthy eating the cauliflower. We also ordered "The Shroom" pizza that came with two different types of mushrooms. The pizza was good (thin crust, which we enjoyed) and we have leftovers for tomorrow as a snack! The bottom line: We definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking for a nice meal that is reasonably priced and good-quality food!
Sadly I have to agree with the other reviews about how bad this place is. Unfortunately the food was very greasy and bland. The workers did a good job, but I witnessed them being abused by the owner and it was very uncomfortable. Not the type of place I want to support.
Great atmosphere and always very kind staff. Food is pretty meh and the prices aren’t the best bang for your buck. Really appreciate the theme nights they have (like trivia) to have something to do on a week night
Hadn’t been in awhile. Pizza and beer selection (although a lot of empty taps) were really good. The man running the food to tables was grilling me and other tables as he came and dropped off food. Not sure if it was a bad day? I’ll probably stop by again
I’ve been going to Canary since it opened, over ten years ago. There’s been a decent amount of change and turnover through the years, not always for the better. The place has improved markedly over the last couple of years, though, which is great to see because the staff is always nice and the space is perfect for a restaurant and bar. Current menu is quite tasty! It’s still a bit expensive for what you get, and you’ll wait a while if they’re busy, but you always see the staff busting their butts to keep up. I know the current staffing shortage is hitting most restaurants really hard, too, so I think it’s understandable. Frankly, I wish I could help out!

super tasty food and the trivia was fun!! got the fried chicken sammy and the fries which were both delicious, definitely rec this place
The place is beautiful the location fine but the food not as much, went with friends and some of us order fish and chips that had an awful batter, it was just 2 little fish fingers in a huge batter, other friend order Cesar’s salad and they almost give her the lettuce without cutting it, the place was very dark, we had to use the cellphone lights to be able to pay the bill which I think was very expensive taking in consideration that fish and chips are so simple but the way they prepare it is not right. I had higher expectations for them, disappointed.
Pros: Nice outside seatingCons: mediocre food, disorganized staff, questionable moralsThere's nothing really I can say about the food besides "meh". The prices aren't bad, but the food is just so average. And the staff really need to be more attentive in what they are doing. We were seated outside, which was really nice. But our table had no napkins or utensils. The waiter came proceeded to ask for our drink orders, which we did not want any. About 1 minute after we were seated, the waiter came back and asked for our food order. We had to ask the waiter to give us more time.Once we ordered the food, our waiter never came back. Our food came out and we had no silverware to eat with or water to drink. We had to flag down a "runner", whose job is to bring out food, and not to check up on us.At the end of our meal, I had to find our waiter for the payment. I handed him a $100 for a $60 tab. As I went back to my seat, I could see who must have been a manager, intercept him and deny him of cashing out the $100.The waiter came back to me and claimed that they didn't have enough change...as in they didn't have $40. Either they simply did not want to take a $100 bill or judged based on my physical appearance, which I doubt was due to my clothes as I was in business casual attire. No loss on my part here, since the food is just not good.
Wanna step in and read a menu to decide if you want to eat here? We did this and there's zero light so you have to get out your phone to turn on the flashlight which is a super stylish way to discreetly look at a menu in a _very dark room_. We thought we were just too old but then we watched several other people do the same thing as our evening went on which gave us a chuckle but also maybe turn a light on??Moving past the entrance...I get that understaffing is a thing right now but I just paid over $100 for dinner for two. The service was well intentioned but not highly functioning. We had to point where everything went on the table. The wait times for everything were long and we spent two hours on dinner for two: we each had one drink, one app and one main. Looking around, there were many empty tables so I'm guessing they are understaffed which is a valid reason but maybe a quick heads up about that while we sit down or while we order our drinks would have added a star to this review. The food: The gnocchi was undercooked on the inside and overcooked on the outside like they couldn't wait for the water to heat up properly; the clam chowder was overpriced for what it is and barely digestible since it lived rent free in my partner's gut for an extra day and the menu hypes about using Udi's gf pizza "dough" when I would barely classify that as "crust". This stuff is bulletproof; it's like eating a wafer thin rock; it turns out the hype is some kind of practical joke with a $4 gluten free upcharge. The saving grace was the cauliflower appetizer which was the only thing we got that we liked. Definitely get the cauliflower and you can't screw up beer, if it ever gets to your table.
Waiting staff was def improvisingPizza was great
