The most authentic Somali food I have ever had...and their Halwa is the best...even better than Halwa Khismayo

I had a late lunch today and it was fantastic. They offer a plate dubbed "The Federation". I won't spoil it but it is my favorite. The spiced tea is one that would bring the Maharajah to tears. Grab a cup anytime, it will bring life to you.

The food is ok--not great, but good enough and its cheap. My issue with this place is the lack of basic professionalism. The staff are cold, slow, and prone to ignoring customers. Their posted business hours are incorrect. As others have noted, there's also issues with how well the place is maintained. The options for Somali food in Boston are limited so this place has a captive customer base to an extent, but I personally will not be going back. I don't need to spend my money at a place where they feel totally comfortable ignoring you when you're waiting at the counter to pay.

Best Somali food this side of New England. I had the rice + steak combo. Very good! Was originally planning to get the goat and rice combo, but seeing as we stopped by during closing hrs, the goat had sold out. The steak and rice combo was very good tho. I could eat that s*** for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Only complain is, wish their rice portions were much larger. Other then that, this is the place.

Food is amazing!! You will likely be wary. Don't be. There are about 3 tables and you'll have an option of fish, chicken or goat. We got chicken and goat. The portions are huge. One plate could have fed 2-3 of us but it was so good we couldn't stop eating it. It will come with rice and salad greens. Don't complain about the quality of a thing. Just dig in and enjoy. Get extra napkins cause you'll be drooling on yo self.

Are you looking for something totally different and outside of traditional food choices in the United States? Then Deria Express Cafe is your place. I've NEVER had food from Samali before, and let me tell you-- it's a treat. My only hope is that I'll be able to visit it again when I travel to Boston again.

I was visiting a friend in Boston, and somehow Somali food came up in conversation, and he realized that he's never had it. So out comes Yelp, and sure enough, a search for Somali food brings up Deria Express Cafe. It only had two reviews, but we cross-referenced with Google, and it looked legit. We plugged it into Waze, and pulled up to a large municipal lot that was fairly empty. After parking, and walking around the building, we found the entrance. It's on the side of the rather large building that faces the parking lot, roughly in the center, under a red awning. We got there close to 8 PM, and they close at 8:30, so the only meat left was chicken. For carbs, it was a choice of rice or spaghetti. They were also able to find bananas for us, and they still had somali tea left. So two portions of chicken w/ rice, a bowl of green salsa, two bananas, and one Somali tea cost us $26. Not bad at all. I would love to come back at an earlier time to try the goat.
