We attended the Malcom X 100th Birthday Read a Thon and stopped in for our first experience with Ethiopian cuisine. The setting is unassuming. Everyone inside was speaking another language, perhaps Aharmic? Some were sipping coffee that was served in lovely pottery. We ordered Sambusas, some veggie dishes and a chicken dish. Fasika Cafe in Roxbury is a true gem for authentic Ethiopian cuisine, and their tsom firfir is a standout dish that keeps me coming back. Made with pieces of injera soaked in a richly spiced sauce, the dish is completely plant-based but still incredibly hearty and satisfying. It’s well-seasoned with just the right kick—bold, comforting, and deeply flavorful without being overwhelming.
