Recommend their Korean fish cake soup and barley tea and the rice punch. The purple potato fries are also good. It's nice that they open late and you can order Uber eats from this place for late night snacks. The soup complements the food. And their food always seem to be freshly made and prepped carefully. Although there were times they miss parts of the order from time to time, you can see they do pay close attention to details for food preparation. Not sure why they got a bad review from someone saying the price is steep. Compared to other places, the price is okay. They also have deals on Uber eats pretty often and they are more like tapas style snacks, which I think is at the right price and nice when you get combos to try variety of food. I think it would be nice to have an option for rice punch with pulp. Not sure why but maybe they got complaints about the rice pulp in the rice punch by some people who don't understand that it's supposed to have rice in it and can't appreciate the drink as it's supposed to be. But it doesn't feel whole without bits of rice pulp.

It's okay. I admire the fact that it's a very hardworking small business and that the food seems/tastes fairly homemade, but the prices of certain things are pretty steep. Two very small pork jowl skewers are $5 (about three and a half thumb sized pieces of pork on a skewer). The chawanmushi was a little bit too salty for me, but still okay. The onigiri are good - I had the salmon and the tuna mayo corn - but I think I might recommend going to Brookline for Japonaise Bakery's onigiri or katsu sandwiches - also much cheaper and a bit bigger. Onigiri at Issa is about $6 a pop each for an onigiri, while elsewhere I typically see it max out at $3.5. Even Hmart's fresh onigiri is a bit cheaper. The flavors at Issa are very strong though, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how savory or salty you like your food. I'd highly recommend the stuffed chicken, but just be aware two boneless stuffed wings are about $7. I typically eat pretty salty/savory, but I think things were a little too strong/salty for me, which isn't super typical of authentic Japanese food. It's not bad, but I don't think I'd go again. I ordered about $45 bucks of food on a Sunday night.

I absolutely love the Issa Onigiri. Not only the onigiri are tasty, the food also looks really pretty. And the stuffed chicken wings are just my favorite, so juicy, as good as the ones I had during my visit in Taiwan! The only thing is it is take out only, and I hope it can be a dine-in place one day!

Mediocre Onigiris made via a ghost kitchen - South Boston Bites. When I first saw this place on Instagram, I expected it to be an intimate local business offering freshly-made onigiris. However, that hope was immediately dashed upon the realization that this was another take-out only place operating out of a shared kitchen, without the charms of a dedicated storefront. This realization was further exacerbated by the premium prices attached to their offerings.I opted for the deluxe bento box and tried a variety of their onigiris. Only things that I found good were Smoked Salmon Egg salad nigiri and the stuffed chicken wings. Other items left much to be desired.A pivotal element of made-to-order onigiri is the warmth of freshly-made rice. Issa Onigiri completely missed this mark. The rice, even on immediate sampling, was no more than lukewarm. They were certainly no better than cheaper and generic onigiris that are often sold as snacks at boba stores. What made them even worse were the toppings in some of them, especially in Chili chix and spicy pork. The dry and flavorless meats made for a challenging bite, especially without the aid of a drink. While their Instagram ads might paint a good picture, the reality was starkly different. I’ve had much better Onigiri in Hawaii at less than half the price, so this was a very disappointing experience overall. Would probably not try them again.

Overpriced onigiri! I tried some of them with my friend and they were pretty bland and dry. I really liked their stuffed chicken wings, but that was it. We did get a free tote bag as part of their promotion this weekend but the food just wasn't that good.
