On an important day, my kids and I visited and enjoyed a wonderful meal that brought us comfort and peace. We ordered large bowls of ramen for my kids, who loved the rich flavors, and soft beef over rice, which added to the warmth of our meal. I chose the octopus balls, a chicken burger, and a simple bowl of rice for myself. Rice has always been a “safe” food for me, a comforting tradition that has brought calm over the years, and it was exactly what I needed that day.
The location of Isshindo Ramen at the Hong Kong Supermarket made it a perfect stop after picking up fresh ingredients for more meals together. This meal was a reminder of the safety and happiness we now have, and we’re forever grateful to the people who have stood by us and helped us feel protected. Thank you, Isshindo Ramen, for being a part of a truly meaningful day for us.

I am from New York and I traveled to Boston in summer of 2023. I stayed at a bed and breakfast in Brookline and my partner and I stopped here for dinner in the mood for ramen. I still think about that ramen, it was one of (if not the) best I’ve ever had. And I’ve had ramen all over the NYC metropolitan area. Very nice staff as well. Hope to make it back here someday, I think about that bowl of ramen all the time.

The BEST ramen in Boston in my opinion. I always get the house ramen and it NEVER disappoints! It's even so good as take out! Highly, highly recommend this place if you're in the Boston area.

Unpretentious, flavorful ramen. My favorite broth of all the ramen spots I've tried in the Boston area, and the chashu is also extraordinary. The servers were attentive and outgoing.

Great hole-in-the-wall ramen restaurant. Our food came only minutes after ordering, with hefty portions at cheap prices.

Solid spot for ramen located inside Super 88 grocery store.
Visited this place a few times while I was in Allston. Unlike other food court counters in the supermarket, Isshindo has its own separate space, so it offered a better dining experience than I initially expected. Tried several items on the menu, and while I really liked their ramen, the other dishes weren’t so great.
The tonkatsu broth on their signature Isshindo Ramen was silky smooth as advertised, with a perfect level of creaminess, though its savory depth was just average. The ramen noodles, however, were truly some of the best I’ve had in the area. Instead of the usual thick noodles, they used thin and wavy ones, which had a fantastic chewy texture. During my past few visits, I’ve also noticed a few Japanese students dining here, which is probably a good sign that their ramen is top-notch.
However, the other items on the menu were just okay. Compared to other affordable Japanese restaurants in the city, dishes like takoyaki, shrimp tempura, and fried chicken weren’t very impressive. They were enjoyable but not good enough for me to order again. Even the Sukiyaki beef curry plate was a bit disappointing—the curry was too watery, and the high-fat portions of the sukiyaki beef didn’t pair well with the mild sauce.
Would definitely come back for their ramen, but probably wouldn’t go beyond that on the menu.

Their spicy miso ramen is the best I've had in Boston so far.

Among the Japanese ramen eaten in the U.S., the price was reasonably good.
Best takoyaki!

Loved their original tonkotsu ramen which is isshindo ramen on the menu. Reasonably priced, huge portion, excellently marinated chasu and egg. Authentic Japanese Tonkotsu ramen. The broth was rich yet not too thick/oily. The taste was on point, not too salty like many of the ramen places. Service was also great!

It may look like a hole-in-the wall, next to the super 88 market, but their ramen broth is packed with flavor. We tried the spicy miso ramen (+ajitama egg) and spicy tan tan men (+onsen egg), both were delicious. Definitely will come back to try more ramen.

No-frills, less expensive ramen than others nearby. My go-to comfort ramen spot with also good apps & sides like takoyaki, karaage & mini curry, beef or chashu rice bowls. ? Service is always prompt & plenty of parking with a free lot.
