Met Jeremiah, the 4th Gen owner. He was awesome. This place is awesome. The food is awesome. The Guinness is awesome. Come to this place. It's awesome.
Awesome bar, and one of the best bartenders, Joe!
This is our favorite local place, it feels like home when you walk in. Even when it's jammed, the service is on point and no long waits for a waiter/waitress. Food is always good and the beer is cold. Thanks!
Anti American establishment
Best Bar/Restaurant in the south end, there's no question.

This business charges a 4% credit card surcharge that it disguises as a cash discount on top of the listed menu prices. This is an illegal business practice, and I have submitted a complaint to the Attorney General’s Office to correct this issue.
Furthermore, the food is not very good. My friend ordered a chicken sandwich that tasted very bad. When we raised the issue of the credit card surcharge with the manager, he refused to correct the issue.

I was dropping my friend off at the airport, but since her flight was delayed, we decided to grab food and drinks nearby. This was our first time at JJ Foley's Cafe. When we arrived, the table we were seated at was dirty, which wasn’t a great first impression.
I ordered the Blue Lemonade, and my friend had a Long Island Iced Tea. The drinks were decent but not very strong.
For food, we ordered the wings with buffalo sauce on the side and the duck poutine fries. Unfortunately, the wings were completely unseasoned, tasting like they had just been battered in flour and fried without any seasoning. The duck poutine fries were burnt. While I didn’t want to make a big deal, my friend decided to bring it up with the bartender. His response was dismissive, he said since we had “dug into,” he couldn’t take the dish off the bill, even though we’d only had two bites.
Later, we spoke with the manager and pointed out that the fries were burnt. His response? “That’s why there’s gravy, to soften the fries.” While he eventually removed the dish from our bill, his attitude was unnecessary and unprofessional. For the rest of our time there, he ignored us, even when we were clearly trying to get his attention to pay the bill.
Overall, the experience left a bad taste in our mouths. A dirty table, lack of attentiveness, and dismissive behavior cost them a star in my book.

Stopped in for a bite to eat earlier in the day. I had about 45 minutes to spare and had great steak tips, mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was great! Service was outstanding too and very welcoming. I highly recommend this place to anyone.

Restaurantji Recommends
Terrible service- bartender abandoned our table, so we fetched our food from the kitchen about 45 minutes after ordering. I would recommend patrons check their credit card statement, as the restaurant added $20 to our credit card tip, shown in the photos below.
To Mike, Owner- I understand the impact caused by the unexpected party. My main issues lies in the tip being added to card. I feel for guests who might unknowingly fall victim to this scam.

There's nothing like an Irish pub, and this is a great one in Boston. Good food, and an overabundance of authenticity.
