Forget the North End. When you want authentic Italian from a local neighborhood spot...go to Mario's.
Everything is homemade. Service is friendly and welcoming. Excellent value...prices are a fraction of what you'd spend at a tourist trap in the North End. Jovial atmosphere, lots of locals eating and laughing and having a good time.
It was our 3rd time and we will certainly be back again.

Great food and even better people. My wife really wanted to try their pesto and was treated to a small cup of it with our bread (it was amazing!). The chicken parm was fantastic! An absolute must visit place!

We did not have a reservation but we’re seated within 6 minutes. The wine was delicious. We ordered Pesto Shirmp and chicken parm. Absolutely the best. Ursula, the owner, waited on us and was a hoot! Atmosphere was inviting and entertaining watching the local people interact. I recommend Mario’s 100%

Stopped in on 8/18/25 for dinner after our flight from BOS to PSP was canceled. This is the quintessential Italian-American restaurant serving food common to many Italians on the East Coast of the US. We shared a fettuccine with shrimp and the most delicious pesto sauce I've had in a long time. (Bonus it is traditional and not made with cream as is served in many restaurants.) Also shared a veal parmiagiana with eggplant, and served with a side of penne and red sauce. Equally as delicious.
Almost as important as the food was the welcoming and kind nature of Ursula and her staff working the front of the house. It's not often I find restaurant owners working in their own places but love it when I do because it adds to the places charm and success. She seemed to know most of the guests and even some of their favorites. It was like being invited to someone's house fir dinner.
Their menu includes a selection of pastas, chicken, and veal dishes. Mario's is a simple place with delicious food and a super welcoming owner and staff. Next time were spending the night in East Boston were going back to Mario's.

Loved all of it. Food was authentically amazing. My husband said it felt like he was back in Brooklyn with his Italian family for Sunday dinner. Service was fast. Highly recommend. Next time we're in Boston, we're going to stop in again.
