Glad this place got rid of the weird nightclub vibes. I only do pickups now, but how difficult is it to mess that up too? I arrive at the restaurant and after a waiter watches me stand at one end of the restaurant for 5 minutes, he tells me to go to the front of the restaurant. Then, I tell the girl at the front my name, and she doesn’t check the food that’s already next to her and says the waiter is going to go get it and disappears. Uhh, when did you guys have the chance to communicate that because he doesn’t know my name? She comes back and I have to ask her to take a look at the orders next to her before she reluctantly says one of them is mine. No sorry for making you wait or whatever. Quality in service is way different from when this place opened doors. Don’t recommend. Owners need to come back to run the show.
Kind servers but the food was nothing to write home about. The sushi was mediocre at best but the fried rice was good

A $12 wagyu was a tiny cut and didn’t taste worth it. Don’t have any desserts even tho list them on the website.

3 salmon sashimi for $12, a mediocre maki for $24. Placing its prices among the most expensive sushi restaurants in Boston. But only the environment meets the standard. Food is not worth its price. Take-out chopsticks are the cheapest quality and napkins are the same ones as restroom hand-dry towels.

Solid upper-mid sushi spot in South Boston.
After spotting their incredible oyster deal a few weeks ago, we decided to visit for lunch on a late Sunday afternoon. Although they were closed for a while last year, it didn't seem like much had changed since my last visit.
They were offering a dozen oysters for just a dollar with every $100 spent. While the oysters were of average quality, the deal was still incredibly enticing. Along with the oysters, we ordered the Clay Pot, which featured an array of my favorite toppings: Uni, Ikura, Toro, and Caviar. Served atop a bed of truffle rice, this appetizer was quite addictive.
From the regular sushi selections, both the Torched Toro Maki and Surf & Turf Maki stood out. They weren't overly sauced, featured high-quality toppings, and offered a well-balanced flavor profile. The 9-piece nigiri omakase was also one of our favorites. Among sushi restaurants of a similar caliber in Boston, Purple Shell’s nigiri omakase excelled. The elegantly presented toppings were thoughtfully paired with each piece and enhanced the overall experience without feeling gimmicky.
Only miss was the Chirashi Don. Despite being generously topped with fish, the pieces were too finely chopped and lacked overall flavor.
Although Boston's sushi scene is improving, South Boston remains one of the few neighborhoods where progress seems slow. Even established spots like Purple Shell seems to struggle thriving. Nevertheless, if you're craving good-quality sushi that mostly caters to the American palate, Purple Shell will get the job done.

Such an incredible restaurant. This is our favorite sushi restaurant in Boston! Absolutely incredible appetizers and rolls. I highly recommend the Clay Pot appetizer and the Perfect Dose roll!

I got $8 of sushi and it was literally one piece... like one bite of sushi. The curry I got didn't come with rice so I couldn't eat it. So for dinner I ate a single bite of sushi that I paid to have delivered to me. Wow.

We were a party of 8. Had the salty shrimp plus side of shrimp fried rice. Food was good. Drink ( Refresh me) was great. My son had a beef spicy basil lomein and watermelon aqua fresa drink and loved both. Everyone seemed to be ok with their food. It seemed like a busy day (mother's day) and staff was really busy but they were still professional and personable.

We ordered food delivery from Purple Shell and it was very disappointing. The fried dumpling/peking ravioli had raw filling!! Also ordered general gao’s with bland flavors. The walnut shrimp was lightly fried which was good but the flavor was bland again. Would not recommend this place
