I’ve been here twice and it’s definitely my favorite spot! I walk by it all the time when I go for my walks around Castle Island. How did I miss this?! The food is so good and the guy that works there, sorry! Don’t know his name is so nice✨
A hidden gem, basically a hole in the wall that compensated with good quality food and good price. You'll be absolutely surprised!

Really great food. Board-walk-esque. A cheeseburger 🍔 for $6, I haven’t seen that since 1992

I stopped in to grab a chicken parm sandwich to take over to L Street Tavern. The sandwiches were great and we ready in no time.
I often ask for little changes to my meal options (tomato sauce instead of oil and garlic / no onions etc.) And they are always really accommodating. My only negative is that it's not clear on the menu that the high-protein cold salad is actually chicken in mayonnaise (I thnk - it's definitely not just chicken) and now that I am pregnant I cannot have this :-( Which sucks as it's mega nice! However, i'm more up for carbs right now with this morning sickness! The portions at Sals whatever you chose are very good! Really lovely, tasty and fresh food.
Really not much of a competition. Hands down the best traditional pizza in southie and amongst the best in the city. Never been disappointed with any item I’ve ordered from here. Biggest negative is that it is closed on Sundays.
I’m in for a conference and staying in an Airbnb in the neighborhood. I found this local Italian restaurant and it is legit in every way! Great food! Full of locals and the owner and his brother are super friendly. I had the spaghetti and meatballs- delicious! I’ll be back!
Sal's Ristorante & Pizzeria in South Boston (at the corner of L and 8th) is a local, family run restaurant that serves some very good pizza (they even have gluten free pizzas) and meatballs. Service was friendly, quick and they cheerfully accommodated our special requests. We ordered the caprese pizza, meatball dinner and veal parmesan sub - all very good. Their tiramisu is also delicious.
I've been going to Sal's for years...and I always get their meatballs which are fantastic. The chicken crochetti's and stuffed peppers are also delicious as well as their pizza. I've had the Eggplant Special a few times and loved it. Cannot go there without getting their meatballs...so much that I come up from the Cape to get them. :-)

Been coming here for a long long time. Meatballs are just as good today as ever. Only thing I ever get pretty much. Friendly people great location. No complaints
The only saving grace of our order was the antipasta-lots of meats and cheese, fresh lettuce and delicious raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The sausage pizza was ok, and the veal parm was blah, including the pasta and sauce. Would not recommend
Worth a visit to get your pizza fix! We were staying in the Hilton in Woburn and walked over for dinner. Pleasant counter staff, typical pizza parlor atmosphere, but the pizza was great! Loved the crust - perfectly browned, with spicy pepperoni. All this and inexpensive to boot!
Order at counter, very good breakfast sandwich - ham and egg on bagel and potato and egg on a roll - delivered to your table. Enjoyed this small, neighborhood restaurant in S. Boston.
We live close to Sal's so it is convenient for us to order take-out when I don't want to cook. I particularly like the Eggplant Special, two pieces of eggplant stuffed with chicken, onions, mushrooms & cheese served over spaghetti or ziti. I also like the pepper & egg sub. They have an extensive menu including breakfast subs, cold subs, hot subs, wraps, salads, Italian traditional & specialty dinners, soups, seafood dinners, paninis, steak tips, pork tips, lamb tips & chicken tips. They also have homemade sausage with peppers & onion. There are a lot of side orders like Rice Ball, Stuffed Pepper, Crochetti, Home Fries, French Fries, Meatball & more. I have not tried their pizza yet or their calzones. They have a Catering Menu with lots of options. You can order online @Salsofsouthie.com Give it a try. They deliver if you don't want to pick-up yourself.
