Everything we ordered was extremely over cooked. Very overpriced. Extremely loud and very dark. Ordered drinks and never got them.
I've been too ShoJo many times- great atmosphere, fun food, delicious drinks. My only note to the restaurant- the music was so loud that the person and I that were there together had to lean across the table and yell at each other. Felt more like a late night bar then restaurant- turning down the music a smidge would make all the difference for conversations you can hear :)
Fantastic Food, Great Service. (Don't tell too many people, I'd like to still be able to get a reservation here without booking two weeks out.) Highlights: The Girlfriend and I always split the Pork Belly Bao & Wagyu Dumplings. sometimes we'll get the Sichuan Bao or popcorn chicken to share as a third. a long with one or two more plates depending on our mood and company. Can't go wrong with anything but if it is your first time here, Shojonator is an awesome burger and the bone marrow is a really fun decorative appetizer to get if you're there with a date. But like I said, you really can't go wrong with anything here. On this menu everything is good.
Great small plates and cocktails. Fun atmosphere.
Great bar bites and a nice vibe. Shojo provided my husband with a wonderful birthday experience. Thank you!
I made a reservation for 12PM on 11/5/2025 and it was accepted on 11/3. When my friend and I showed up on that day, the door was locked and nobody answered the phone. Times listed online and on the door stated that they would be open starting at 11:30AM daily. We saw a person's shadow in the back with the kitchen lights on, but that person didn't answer the door. It is also disappointing that I had to input my credit card to make the reservation. So much time wasted for no food. I would not recommend going here, especially with the poor service comments by actual diners.
Portion sizes were plentiful and flavor of what we got was delicious. Was less impressed with the bone marrow and the amount that was received for the price. It got a bit hard to hear as the music was so loud which lead to all tables having to shout, but overall the experience was good.
The food was really good, the servers sadly were not. Anytime we asked for anything or ordered another drink it was almost as if we were bothering them.
This was our first time here and most likely the last. Service was poor, we waited quite awhile after being sat before anyone came over to greet us. The food was SO salty and I'm normally not sensitive to food like that, but it was very unappealing. We had two cocktails that were okay, but overall very unimpressed. For the area I would recommend going elsewhere.
The place seems very popular because it got very crowded soon after we arrived. We arrived early because we had to catch a show later. The place is more like a bar and very dark that hard to read the menu. The server who seated us seemed damn care but later another one was lovely. We got Bao and kimchi fried rice and both were very salty. Maybe bad day for us!

The kimchi fried rice was delicious. The pork belly was too fatty. The popcorn chicken was fun and gluten free! There was extremely loud trap music playing the whole time, so it was hard to enjoy conversation across the table. Our server was kind and attentive! Glad we tried Shōjō.

Average food. Seemed that a lot of it was unfresh. Music was blaring and hard to hear over.
I had a great experience overall at Shōjō Boston— the food and cocktails are creative and beautifully presented.
However, I want to share a health caution for anyone with kidney disease (or reduced kidney function). One of their signature cocktails, “Phoget About It”, includes starfruit (carambola) among its ingredients (vodka, basil, pho-spice, starfruit, lemon).
Starfruit can be highly toxic to people with kidney disease — even in small amounts — and can cause serious complications or kidney failure. This isn’t widely known, so I wanted to include this information so others can stay safe.
If you have kidney issues, please mention this to your server or avoid anything containing starfruit.
Otherwise, Shōjō remains a unique and inventive restaurant, and I appreciate their creativity — just wanted to raise awareness about this specific ingredient for those who need to be careful.

I really wanted to love this place as everything on the menu sounded great. The staff were kinda mundane and service seemed unusual slow. We try many different dishes and honestly they were fine just nothing really stood out as great. The portions were relatively small but probably fair for the price. Overall maybe I came on the wrong day, but I won’t be visiting again.
