We visited on a rainy windy night and had the garden level to ourselves. The drinks and food were excellent. Sophia our server was fantastic, getting all the details for each order. Thank you!
I was very disappointed with our waitresses lack of concern for allergies. I told her I had a nut allergy when we ordered. We ordered the bakery basket and she didn't know what the types of pastries we were served when we specifically asked her after the basket was brought to the table. One ended up having nuts and we told her and she didn't even acknowledge the issue or apologize for not telling us. This lack of concern is shocking. Luckily my allergy isn't severe enough to warrant an eppy pen so I was fine and we caught it before I ate it. Shame on how this was handled
Nice, cosy place to have dinner on a very windy and rainy evening. The basement dining room offered a comfortable and warm experience.
We love the Buttery. It's so pleasant in the downstairs fireplace dining room. The fireplace was on, which was so nice. Our server was attentive. The steak frite disappeared, it was so good, but my burger was just so-so.
Cozy atmosphere inside. Excellent wait staff. Drinks were not that potent for either of us. Thought the meatloaf dinner was excellent but priced a bit high for what it was.
There are places you visit by chance, and others you feel you were meant to find. South End Buttery belongs to the latter.
From the moment I walked in, I knew this wasn’t just a place to have breakfast. I ordered the eggs Benedict, which were perfectly made, and a cup of coffee with a balanced, comforting flavor… but more than the taste, it felt affectionate. Why “affectionate”? Because that’s exactly how I felt from the very beginning: welcomed, cared for, at home.
Three people truly shaped my experience: Valentina, who kindly welcomed and guided me to my seat; Vanessa, my lovely and attentive server; and the manager, whom I briefly met but immediately recognized as the heart behind the outstanding team. It’s not about who was kinder—it’s clear that someone here knows how to choose exceptional people.
The place itself is beautiful—classic, well-kept, with a radiant energy. I didn’t just feed my body; I fed my soul. I left feeling grateful, uplifted, and inspired.
I’m happy to be in Boston, but this place… I will return. Rarely have I left a spot with such a strong desire to come back.

Scone size has been halved leaving the same price, kind of disappointing, I used to grab two scones every time I was in the area but it doesn’t make sense now
A dear friend suggested we meet here for dinner. OMG, this is now one of my faves. Great service, great location, great food.

This place allows children to run wild throughout the restaurant disturbing everyones morning. Management should tell the parents to control them or leave. Besides that serving coffee in a paper cup is a disgrace. This is not McDonalds although their coffee is less bitter.

Chili was mostly tomatoes and peppers. Caprese sandwich was good, but soggy. Mediocre GF bread. GF macaroon was good, sugary, and right next to the gluten brownies.
