A great restaurant, food was outstanding! They serve bread with oil and vinegar, which was very nice. And the Celtics game was on, no sound but we got to watch it from our table, so a perfect night!
From the moment we walked in we were welcomed. Our server made us feel like family. I believe his name is Carlo. And there was another gentleman as well but I didn't catch his name. Both of the gentleman were great! From talking about travel stories to helping us keep our kids calms with tricks and laughter. The best was when they put on the birthday song for our son, knowing it was his 2nd birthday. The little things matter the most. The food was amazing and the wine recommendation was great. All good things. Planning to go back very soon. Worth the almost 2 hour drive. Everyone was welcoming and very attentive. Thank you!
We were hesitant after reading reviews, but have always loved the sister restaurant Nico and thought we'd give it a try with friends in town visiting. We did go early - so I can see how some of the complaints of loudness could be worse when it is packed - but it was not too busy when we dined and it had an upbeat atmosphere. We love that they still have the old vibe of Nico with the clips of The Godfather playing on the tv and our young adult kids and friends liked the modern music that was playing - which I could see could be a bit much if the restaurant was also loud when full. The service and hospitality from the front door to our server was beyond welcoming, friendly as well as knowledgeable without being intrusive. Perfect! The food - while pricey - but that is true of the majority of Boston restaurants - was delicious. We always get the giant meatball appetizer at Nico and it did not disappoint here at Strega. SO good! The whipped ricotta appetizer was also great. For meals, we had a few different ones, but the standouts were the Gnocchi Sorrentina (my husband LOVES gnocchi and has eaten A LOT ;-) and this was by far some of the best and most melt-in-your-mouth that we have eaten. The other standout was the Fettuccine Strega - the fettuccine itself was great, the scallops were cooked perfectly - but the shrimp - I must say was just a tad overcooked - and the only other complaint is that you only get 2 scallops & 2 shrimp - but the cream sauce with asparagus more than made up for that - SO delicious. We will definitely return in the future!
Never been so insulted. The waiter said i should stop at a liquor store and have a few more drinks before i took my date home. It was my sister
Ambiance: confetti from NYE stuck to the floors and chairs. Had to sweep them off before I could sit down. I do not know if the heat was broken or the building is ill equipped to handle a Boston winter. Every guest had to wear their coat to dine because it was frigid inside. Noticed they put a new clean table cloth over an existing dirty table cloth after each table leaves. Food: calamari and Caesar was good. You can tell the Caesar dressing is homemade. Veal chop came out raw but was reheated to the proper temperature. Whipped potatoes came out cold both times. Service: solid and professional
We had an awesome New Years Eve dinner! It was so nice watching the owner just look around and take it all in with a smile on his face!
This restaurant is totally overrated. The dining room is small with tables touching one another so there is no privacy at all. The menu is boring and the food itself was way below average. I ordered eggplant rollatini and if there was any ricotta and eggplant in the dish it was not discernible due to the excessive amount of tomato sauce covering it all ....I took two or three bites and left the rest. The noise level was horrendous. Blaring disco music. Why? There are so many other great restaurants in the North End....avoid this one at all costs.
Visited the north end on a Sunday. Had an early reservation. Strega hosted a brunch event before so getting in on time was chaotic and unorganized. Not the best way to start a special dinner. Once seated the food and service was good. The octopus appetizer is incredible. The bolognese is a true Italian recipe. We will return again. Probably not at the time!
This is the second time I’ve eaten at this restaurant. And I will never go back! First, it was horribly loud you had to shout over 90s techno music, my food arrived swimming in grease, and people were face timing at the table and being catered to by the general manager. When we asked to speak to the GM, he pretended not to be the GM and sent over someone else. Honestly, one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in a long time
The food was outstanding, but the music was way too loud which deterred from the dining experience. I've heard that the music isn't as bad on weekdays though, so would recommend going then.

Strega North End should not be missed. Service level is top notch, our waiter was timely, energetic and hilarious. The food is some of the best you will get in the North End. Its a very unique experience all around. Make it a point to have dinner here.
A small place in an iconic location on Hanover Street serving the best traditional Italuan I have had in the North End. Just be warned...their dishes are rich and the portions large! The chicken parm was very good, the linguine vongole had a delicious sauce and perfectly cooked large class, the meat special was huge and very good and everyone could not get enough of thr pasta alla vodka finished in a vheese wheel.
Awesome meal and great staff, perfect and quintessential North End Italian cuisine!! Love it. Had my three faves on the border televisions, Good Fellas, Bronx Tale and two Godfather's. Will be back!!!
Strega seems to be going downhill and is riding on the coattails of its long-standing brand. For example, the bar doesn't even have top shelf cocktails. They rely on unknown local spirits. While I'm sure that increases their profit margin, it doesn't exactly scream quality. So, odd. The food was pretty good, otherwise. Our server was a nice guy. Certainly quite loud and lots of young college girls celebrating birthdays. Not quite sure I would go back. Meh.
Terrible atmosphere here. We got sat at the tiniest table possible sandwiched between two large groups. The noise level inside this tiny place is unbearable. You cannot hear anything, the reservations are not honored on time they make you wait on the sidewalk past your reservation time. The entire north end has completely lost all its charm and intimacy. Every restaurant feels like you're trying to dine in a dance club
