Beer was great. Service was good. Food not so much. I ordered some lamb skewers and the sauce was too spicy and really didn't let me enjoy the lamb

Always the best experience at the Merchant! Friendly and attentive staff, great food, fun ambiance with a good vibe. And they validate parking in the nearby garage! Whether for after work drinks and apps or a lunch or dinner downtown, this spot won't disappoint!
Today, I went to The Merchant for lunch with my friends. Upon arrival, the front desk personnel kindly welcomed us at the restaurant and sat us down. The waiters/waitresses were very caring and really wanted to make sure we are well-served which is a huge plus. The table was beautifully set up, the utensils were clean. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, I really enjoyed the dark bar-like ambiance.
The menu had just the right number of options available; however, it was not the easiest for me to choose the right plate due to the ingredients of each dish. I ended up getting the Fish and Chips. The fries were very thin and over fried, meaning some were hard rock. Unfortunately, you could feel on the haddock that it came from a freezer. It was fried and the breading was way too thick, oily, and in some places hard. It also had air pockets in many spots under the crust. On the bright side, the tartar sauce tasted pretty good. As a whole, this plate does not reflect the $22 price at all and I don’t recommend getting it.
Overall, I liked the restaurant’s looks and the employees’ hospitality but unfortunately a restaurant is mostly about the food it serves. I don’t think I will return to eat here again; maybe I’ll try the drinks next time.

Excellent oysters. Mediocre caesar salad w chicken…I wouldn’t get it again. Mocktail was okay. Great service & ambiance. A good spot for a lunch

Stopped in for a drink after work. We wanted to stay and get something to eat but found the menu to be very sparse. Left and ate elsewhere because we couldn't find anything that interested us.

The Merchant is always reliably very good with both food, drink and service. Today was no exception!
The place has a lovely atmosphere with good vibes and all the staff has been very nice. About the food, we expected to find something more on the seafood traditional choice as everything was too much ... spicy! But the overall experience has been absolutely positive!!
Small menu, Short Ribs were sold out. It was NYE 8:30 and busy. Food was excellent, great ambiance. Service a little slow but to be expected on a busy holiday. Ice cream was amazing.
We had steak frites and the Thai curry. Both were very tasty And well prepared. The steak was large and perfectly done and there was salad with the frites- a generous serving of both. My curry was subtly spiced and the veggies were crisp with brown to rice- very healthy. It was during a holiday week so the service was fast and the restaurant was quiet. Very nice experience.

Excellent for date night! I loved the variety of menu, not to mention the quality of the food and drinks. My favorites were the tuna tartare and octopus appetizers. Service was prompt, and the location is great for a pre or post dinner walk and/or show.

If you're looking to dive right into the heart of Boston and want the perfect spot for lunch or dinner without breaking your exploration stride, this place nails it!
Delicious food and drinks. Oysters were fresh and tasty! Other than a very loud front door that banged every time someone entered or exited the dining experience was great!
Eli was fantastic, very hospitable and incredibly knowledgeable about the beer selection. He gave great recommendations and clearly knows his stuff. The house bourbon selection is also excellent and well worth trying. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the oysters were outstanding. Will definitely be back.
