They were very crowded so service was a bit slow. Best clam chowder I've ever had. Thick and rich. So cool to eat in a tavern that's been around over 240 years!

They actually boast the best Clam Chowder. Well, it was the worst chowder I have ever eaten. Service was okay and atmosphere was a little lame. My recommendation is skip this joint.

The history that speaks to you when you walk in is incredible! To see the bones of the original building and realize the historical figures that stood in thay building and the plans they made there is awe inspiring! The food was delicious as well!!

Food was ok if not a bit overpriced. Super crowded. Really hot inside. Was cool to eat where some of the founding fathers ate.

But OF COURSE we had to stop for a beer and a bite at the oldest bar in MA. We went on a Friday night so it was incredibly busy as you can imagine. But that did not impact the service or food quality. We started with the chicken Thai wraps. They were fresh and delicious I almost just ordered another plate as my meal. But alas, the shepherds pie did call my name and I dove headfirst. Lovely service, great food, great beer.

It was busy and we were in the corner. I think our server forgot about us as a result. The food was cold when it got to our table, but it would've been good had it been warm. The tea cocktail was disgusting! Otherwise it's a very cool historic site.

I flipped through some of the highest and lowest reviews, and, upon seeing the 1’s and 2’s, I realize I’m not alone.
When we walked up to the door and inside, there were many tables that were totally empty but not bussed. Gave kind of a weird vibe but maybe we just missed busy time. When we walked in, there was nobody at the host stand so we waited for a bit and there’s no sign. Someone finally came up and seated us.
Took 5-10 minutes for a waiter to address us. Then when we ordered food, the waiter didn’t write our order down - whatever, but then came back 40 minutes later to say she forgot to put it in but ALSO forgot if she even took the order in the first place. ?!?!? She didn’t check on us in that entire time! Forty minutes!
The food came out a bit later - we were close to leaving a $10 for the beer and walking out, we had a timer set and everything - and was totally mid. Absolutely forgettable, maybe even arguably not good.
By the time the food came and we were eating, the place turned into a club vibe?! What?!!! We could barely hear each other over the 2012’s frat house music in the bar. We didn’t even want to be there by that point but the service wasted so much of our time!
When we got the check, we’d assume she’d comp the second drink we ordered as an apology- nope. Full price for everything.
Idk, I’d skip if I were you. If you want to experience the atmosphere, get a beer, see where George Washington sat, then leave. Way better food elsewhere!

I regret not choosing the neighborhood pub only steps away, Sullivan’s public house. The hostess was perhaps one of the least friendly hostesses I have ever encountered. When finally seated it took almost 30 minutes to get our food after ordering it and my wife’s cheeseburger was burned to a crisp. If can’t not cook a hamburger, what are you doing cooking at a restaurant? Very sad as this place was packed the Sullivan Public House, a bar where many former Irish Americans from this neighborhood once frequented, was empty. Very sad indeed
