We had a very good experience at Umbria on this past Saturday night. Food was excellent, service was excellent. Place was busy but no too loud, appropriate spacing between tables. Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was for value. Some of the items were priced accordingly but they charged $100 for one crab leg. It was delicious and had a good amount of meat in it but probably worth more like $60 and they still would have made a good profit. The shortage is over, it just felt like robbery. In any case we would go back and probably try a more reasonably priced appetizer.

My reservation was for 6:45 PM, and I arrived 30 minutes early and told the hostess I would wait in the bar. The Manager came over, saw the computer screen, and asked the hostess to provide one of the empty tables for my friends and me. That was fantastic customer service. The server was fantastic, explained the food in detail, offered choices, asked what kind of wine we would like, and was an excellent salesperson for Umbria. The pasta, short ribs, sliders, crab cakes, everything was tasty, and the portions by oz. were just good. She brought a nice plate with dessert, and it had the label 'Congratulations' for my friend's anniversary. The server assists, constantly refills our water glasses, and offers a choice of water, sparkling or still, and brings bread and butter. The ambience was good, there was no noise around, and we were able to have a good conversation. It was cold outside, but inside Umbria Restaurant, the heat was just on the right level, not too hot, not too cold. I will definitely come back to this place. We really do love it here. Food has been consistently delicious. Ambiance is wonderful. Loved our waiter Ken (I think) . He was outstanding. We were initially seated next to the kitchen door. The table/booth is adorable but the light, cold air and noise that hit us every time that kitchen door slammed opened was a real distraction. We asked to move and they gladly accommodated us. We got to keep our waiter! Just wish there was a way to block that door somehow.

The experience was outstanding. Clean restaurant, great ambience, you can smell the deliciousness throughout the restaurant. Employees are extremely attentive and friendly. Food was mouthwatering in flavor. We had pork belly's, Ribeye, Filet mignon and short braised beef with lobster mashed potatoes, broccolini, everything was cooked perfectly. It was our son's birthday and I made one request, to get a secluded table. Not only did they accommodated us, they brought him a slice of birthday cake and sang happy birthday for him. Without a doubt we will make Umbria a frequent stop when we are in Boston!

First off, I'm a big fan of the DePasquale Restaurant Group and frequent many of their restaurants on a regular basis. That said, our experience last night at Umbria can be summed up in one word; disappointing. My wife and I were looking forward to a nice upscale dinner, choosing Umbria not only for its food but also for its ambiance. Unfortunately, we were seated inside Mia, the roof deck bar, which was extremely noisy to the point where we had to shout just to have a conversation. The setup, with patio-style furniture, is much more casual than the rest of the restaurant. To make matters worse, there didn't seem to be enough servers in the lounge. We waited quite a while before a manager finally came over to take our drink and appetizer order. After that, we had two different people rotate in and out serving us, which made the experience feel disorganized. It's important to note that we had a reservation and it stated Umbria, and nowhere did it indicate that we would be seated in the rooftop casual lounge. Had we known, we would have chosen differently. I've never left a review before, but I feel it's important to warn others: if you're booking Umbria on the weekend for the fine dining experience, confirm where your table will be so you're not caught off guard like we were.

Food was awesome, but portions somewhat small. Great atmosphere and staff. Will certainly be back, but will likely try some different and larger format food options.

The waiter was inattentive and dismissive at best. He brought the overall experience down notches. Despite that we did give the standard 20% tip although it was not warranted. We had to ask for a drink menu, ask for bread, ask to place our order which should not have happened at a restaurant of this caliber and price. Food was overall good. The cioppino did not taste like fresh seafood and the flavor depth was lacking. Definitely better places in the N end to spend the amount of money we did for the taste.

Great ambience. I was excited to try this restaurant after reading about it in a magazine. However the meal overall was disappointing. Two guests ordered filet mignon. One came to the table only slightly warm, the other steak the guest was happy with although as soon as it arrived it was noticeable smaller than the other . We remarked about it but went on assuming they actually weigh the meat. I was looking forward to the bread because they have a bakery. The bread arrived cold... not room temperature but cold as if right out of the refrigerator. It may have been good if it had been slightly warm. The waiter took the bread plates away before we even had bread at the table. So we had nowhere to lay the bread. He apologized but did not bring them back. Next the 2 other entrees.. one was the short rib meat with pasta and the other was short rib on the bone over polenta. Both were tasty but served in a strange pot that was difficult to eat out of. The steaks were served on a slate board which looked pretty but was also difficult to eat off of. We ordered 3 sides for the table since the waiter told us they were large enough for all four of us to enjoy. They were large enough but not tasty. We had Lobster mashed potatoes, the gnocchi dish and the mushrooms. None were tasty so we ended up leaving alot of them. Also because of the odd serving dishes we had nowhere to place the sides. On to dessert... I had Creme Brulee and it was good, the cookie dish my husband ordered was very good, the beignets were served with 3 cold sauces. The beignets were warm and tasty but the cold sauces made the dish unappetizing. Overall the dinner was disappointing especially for the prices charged. Also, no fault of the restaurant but the guests next to us were very loud. The waiter was friendly but not very attentive.
