Yunnan is our best kept secret when we’re in Boston! This is my fifth time at Yunnan and it never disappoints. The flavors are authentic and rich. The food is fantastic and the portions are huge, plenty for family-style. The service os also fast and attentive. We highly recommend the fish filet and their fried rice is excellent. The atmosphere is immediately calming. I love Yunnan!

The unique tastes and style of this cuisine really comes through in the Yunnan Flight for Two that my wife and I tried on Saturday night. The first course was stir-fried beef with pickled mustard greens, which had just the right amount of spices, a little heat, and was cooked perfectly. Next came their stir-fried rice cake, which has the mouth feel of a large rice noodle sliced into wafer-sized chunks, nicely spiced with pickled mustard greens, pork, and tomato. A hearty staple of the Yunnan region, no one will be left hungry after eating this smooth, flavorful dish. The master chef Yisha Siu then honored us with a plate of another signature dish: fried pea jelly, which consisted of light, fluffy cubes made with a yellow pea flour mixture that is deep fried and served with chili spices that seemed to have fennel, pepper, and more. Our favorite course was the signature Xishuangbanna lemongrass tilapia, which is a whole fresh tilapia, split and grilled perfectly on the bone with remarkable seasonings that include chili paste, jalapeno peppers, garlic, lemongrass, and citrus. We chose to pair with an Argentinian Malbec and a glass of specialty sake. The coconut delight dessert was distinctive including palm seeds along with coconut flakes and brioche. Yunnan Kitchen is unique in the area for its authentic tastes and presentation. The staff is friendly and attentive, and reservations are needed for weekend nights. The booth we were seated in gave us a quiet special meal. The Chef's flavor in its specialty dishes are unique in the Boston area and well worth experiencing.

Today is my fourth visit to this unique restaurant. Each time I order a different dish and every dish has always blown me away with the unique taste profile and how delicious it is. There is no other Chinese restaurant like this in Boston, as far as I am aware and it is such a refreshing departure from the saturation of Sichuan or Hunan overpowering flavours in Massachusetts.
