Zaku Izakaya was sooooo good. I went for lunch on a Wednesday and the service was so kind and so quick! I got the 4 course lunch menu which is definitely a bang for your buck. The food came out in minutes and was all great quality. I would definitely go back again!

We reserved here on a Saturday evening for 4 people. Visiting Boston, we were very excited about discovering the food scene in Back Bay. Unfortunately, when we got there, they couldn't find our reservation, even after I had shown them the confirmation email they had sent me. The manager offered to seat us and serve us if we were done and gone in an hour, which honestly was kind of insulting. We then spent an hour wandering around the neighborhood in search of another restaurant with 4 places free on a busy Saturday afternoon. I honestly wouldn't have left a review but the next day I got a text message asking me how my experience was, so I felt compelled.

The food is fantastic, and the cocktails were next level. They've only been open a few months but the service was wonderful and the location is great. We will definitely be back!

Ridiculous 18% service fee pre-applied without any notice for lunch and still asking for tips. Scam or what? Service is fine but don’t go there if you don’t want to be ripped off.

For food, rice was not well cooked for the sushi and the grilled saba was too oily. Fish is fresh and tastes good though. Just feeling ripped off.

Zaku has quickly become my go-to spot every weekend—and honestly, I could go any day! The place is beautifully designed with a modern Japanese theme that sets the perfect vibe. But what truly stands out for me are the drinks. The bartender, Allan, is a master at his craft. I’ve tried cocktails all across the country, and I have to say, Allan makes the best I’ve ever had.

I had my first Ramos King Fizz here, and it was absolutely out of this world—seriously, it’s on another level! I tried four other drinks before that, and every single one was phenomenal. Allan, you’re a cocktail genius! If you're a fan of expertly made drinks, Zaku is a must-visit.

As for the food, the presentation is top-notch, though the quality could be improved, especially when it comes to the sashimi and grilled skewers.
We had the Sushi combo (the fish wasn't that cool and fresh, the urchin texture wasn't that good 7/10), the Sashimi (still has some "fishy" taste in it where we though it should be stored or served on cold ice a little bit more), the Yakitori grilled skewers (all the skewers tasted the same, no different, nothing special), and the fried rice (good flavor but the rice was kinda wet). Besides that, the adamame was tasty and the dumplings were sooo gooddd!!!
Still, we had a great time, and I’ll definitely be back. We had a 3 hours dine-in but Allan made me wanted to stay for longer.
I’m looking forward to seeing the food catch up to the incredible drinks! You earned a customer, Zaku.

I had relatively high expectation as the ratings were pretty high (when I wrote this review it was about 4.9). The food was okay. The ramen was not authentic and the Chashu was not well marinated. There were better ramen around the area. The bibimbap was a bit expensive but it was not bad. The atmosphere was a bit noisy too.

This was perhaps the best sushi in America I have ever had. And the service was friendly, attentive and efficient. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend this to anyone in Boston.

My husband and I get takeout from here (formerly Shun’s) once a month or so. Pickup is always straightforward and everything is packed nicely. Spicy basil chicken and fried rice are our favorites, but we also occasionally get maki rolls and shishito peppers. The folks working at pickup are so nice- thanks for being a reliable dinner spot in South End!
