Porto Maltese is more than a great restaurant; it is a distinct and exciting approach to Mediterranean cuisine developed in the seaports of the historic island of Malta, at the very heart of the Mediterranean! In the mid-1980s this authentic approach to seafood began to inspire restaurants from Barcelona to Rome and all across Europe.
This place is exceptional. Their fish is fresh, and on display. I had the sea salt encrusted Branzino. They flambeed it in front of us, at our table, and then fillet it for us. I had the chocolate fondant for dessert, and an espresso. Delicious.
Smeh. Seafood was over cooked and not worth the price. Sauces were under-seasoned and bread was stale. Waiter was very nice. However, the host was very phony-she would frequently look exasperated and give the waiters snotty looks, but then turn to us and act friendly. Nothing was bad per se, just nothing special.
