I have so many great memories of coming here with different groups of friends over the years. I usually get the curry, which I've never been disappointed by, but the other items have been good too.

I’m not sure if they changed the chef or the staff, but the food quality has definitely gone downhill. My friend and I both had diarrhea after eating the Pork Cutlet Curry Set . The taste was completely different from before.
To make matters even worse, the service was appalling. After we had already left a tip, a Thai waitress aggressively confronted us and demanded more, insisting on a mandatory 15% tip. she remained pushy and rude. This was a nightmare experience. That was definitely my last visit.

Food was phenomenal. Prices were excellent. The solo waitress was a beast… she did a fantastic job. The seating situation is far from ideal, but I love that they are working with what they got in the best way. Definitely a comfort type restaurant.
We ordered shrimp dumplings - Crispy Shumai (see photo) - excellent. Chicken Tatsuta- original (photo) - cooked perfectly, moist. And Yaki Don (photo) - great meat /rice ratio!
This place is worth a wait. We lucked out and didn’t have a wait, but I can see a wait happening frequently. I will be happy to wait next time I’m in the neighborhood!

Food is usually good but the waitress/maybe owner lady is unprofessional and asks for tips before serving the food. They swapped the owner obviously, just uncomfortable to eat there now

They reopen midday and 4 minutes past that all tables are full. Everyone is ordering the fried chicken curry rice. We did too and it was good. Our order came with miso soup and small salad. Miso soup did not have any solid ingredient in it. The curry sauce was amazing and i wish i have tried thait beef curry as it is more similar to authentic japanese curry rice. The waitress/hostess is doing her best to keep up with the orders, I just wish there were a better way of communicating to the chefs other than yelling all the time
Loved Café Mami! Cozy little Japanese spot in Porter Square with amazing Hamburg Set Lunch — juicy, flavorful, and great value. Friendly service and quick, too. Can’t wait to go back!
