Zing is my one of my top 3 cafes in Somerville. It’s cozy, rustic, corky and welcoming. Serving local bakery goods and speciality cafe , it feel good ordering from there.
It’s in a book store as well as a little thrifting store in the back
This space is great for a quick stop , long work stay or just a place to unwind and look around
Recommend if your looking for that local vibe
Come here for the drinks, stay for the community!
A great selection of pastries and drinks hot and cold, but also so much more - a work space, a community space, a space just to exist!
A great spot to do a bit of work, read a book, or catch up with an old friend. A big part of the appeal is the staff who are usually pretty friendly and lean into the community-oriented nature of the space. They also host regular events like musical performances, cycling club, and chess/board games!
Really excellent coffee. People behind the counter are very friendly. Can be hard to find a spot to sit sometimes. Outdoor seating in warm weather helps.
Super cute and cozy shop. The coffee is excellent and pastries are great. The employees were really nice and friendly but were saying the names of the drinks very quietly while there were a lot of customers waiting and the noise level was higher, so it was a bit confusing trying to pickup the order. Several people went up to ask and clarify if it each drink was theirs and every time, it wasn’t. Not a huge deal but logistically a little tough when busy!
Good coffee. Nice folks. ‘Nuf said
What a great spot to have coffee with friends, spend some time hanging out with a book, or working for a bit on your laptop with the free WiFi while chatting up with the friendly staff.
Great coffee, great scone, but most of all, a lovely environment that is filled with books and the community itself. Great place to chat or do work, a welcoming place that clearly has a lot of love in it!
I just wanted to say that I came here because I saw the matcha review. And the current matcha definitely has a lighter color and just tastes like regular matcha you can get at any other coffee shops. But I still wanna say that this is such a cozy space to study or work and they have free wifi!! I love having the bookstore in the background :)

A bright start to our day… 😏☕️🇺🇸
I feel compelled to specifically highlight the matcha here… as somewhat of a matcha snob it’s so incredibly rare to get this level of quality matcha from somewhere that doesn’t specifically specialize in it!! I’m almost positive they whisk it to order and they definitely use a very high quality matcha because the color and taste is legit ?? also SO affordable! Comparable matchas I’ve had at more “specialty” shops are $8-9 - this one is $5-6. Cafe zing u guys rock for this.

Feels unsafe to be here. Political signs everywhere. I'm done with this cafe and their sister property in Arlington.

I really wanted to like this place more than I did because I love the idea of a coffee shop inside a bookstore! But I was pretty disappointed on all fronts. The service was pretty slow. It took over 10 minutes to get my drink after I ordered and only 3 other drinks were called in that time I was waiting, so it wasn't that busy. I got a maple latte, which didn't really taste like maple at all? It was very spiced and also tasted a little like dirt, so I'll definitely avoid that flavor if I ever go back. I also got a broccoli and ricotta croissant which tasted good but was really soggy and not at all crispy on the outside like a croissant should be.I think they're trying to make do with the space they have, which is why things aren't as good as you'd expect from a standalone shop. That said if I were in the area and needed some coffee I'd still pop in here instead of going to the chain options next door

It’s the best for coffee and pastries, the lemon bar has ruined me for all other lemon bars. The toffee cookie was going through some rough patches for a while after they did some retooling, but it’s now back to the top shelf. ???

Great coffee and snacks. It’s hard to get a seat because there are only a few, and people camp out with their laptops for hours. The best part is that the cafe is inside a wonderful independent bookstore.
Vegetarian options: The fresh spring rolls are excellent.
Parking: Uses the Porter Square Mall parking lot.
