Great spot for large groups with many dishes to choose from. I loved the soup dumplings and wonton soup. I wish they brought back the buffet. A Cambridge staple!

Changsho on Mass Ave offers consistently good Chinese food. It is a little pricier than some other options, but what really stands out is that I find it much less greasy than similar restaurants in the area, which makes it well worth the extra cost.
Everything was fine until the rat showed up

Edit: we’ve been back several times to speedy service and good food. Our first subpar experience was obviously an off night and we’ve had a nice dining experience every time since. Convenient neighborhood restaurant.
Food was cold & took 1hr to get our meal. Pretty disappointed.

I had lunch at Changsho today, and it was by far one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in Boston.
Let’s start with the food: The “Moo Shu Pork” was a complete disaster. It bore no resemblance to the actual dish in taste, texture, or preparation — frankly, it was inedible. When I asked the server about it, they simply shrugged and said, “It’s different from China.” If you’re running a Chinese restaurant, at the very least, you should serve something recognisably Chinese — not an unseasoned mess passed off under a familiar name.
Then there’s the service — or rather, the complete lack of it. A light-haired female server blatantly ignored us when we tried to ask for the bill in Chinese, pretending not to understand. This was after we heard her confidently chatting in English with another table, even saying she understood Chinese. She deliberately ignored us until we had to call her multiple times. This kind of performative ignorance is disrespectful and discriminatory.
As for the tip for another server — we were told she’d bring us our change, but we later realised $6 had been silently taken without any confirmation or receipt. She took the cash without ever asking how much tip we intended to leave. This is not just unprofessional — it’s dishonest.
To sum up: overpriced, terrible food, disrespectful service, and shady billing practices. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic or respectful dining experience. There are far better Chinese restaurants in Cambridge — this one is a disgrace to the name.

The food was absolutely delicious, waitress was super funny and friendly, the restaurants interior is very comfortable and cozy I would definitely recommend this for a 2 person date or a little get together with friends.

I recently attended a wedding banquet at this venue. While the food itself was excellent—delicious and well-prepared—the service left much to be desired. Unfortunately, the dishes were served very late, and several guests had to leave after only having the appetizers. This significantly impacted the overall experience. Due to the poor service, I would not recommend this place for any special occasions, despite the quality of the food.
Mu shu pork with hoisen sauce and pancakes made in-house. Excellent!
I ordered the lo mein and it wasn’t good at all.

Wish I could give it a zero. Waitress was not friendly at all. The food was awful, got sick from it. Now I see why the place was completely empty on a Saturday.
Changsho is one of the finest Chinese restaurant in the Boston/Cambridge area. I have never had a bad experience there. My wife and I live in Rhode Island and try to dine at Changsho whenever we need to be in the area. We were there again last week. I especially recommend the Hot and Sour Soup, Shao Mai, Yuen-Yang Spicy Beef, and Sizzling Seafood Medley. This restaurant is not your customary American-Cantonese Chop Suey/Chow Mein place. The service is usually pleasant and attentive, and the fortune cookies are chocolate ones!
we have been to Changsha many times. when we arrived in Cambridge in 2009 it was always full. by the time we left Cambridge in 2019, it seemed emptier. Nonetheless, we came here after my son's graduation and had their delicious seafood emperor soup, the ma po tofu and the peking duck. we will always have happy memories of changsha.
The restaurant's decor is clearly well-thought-out, and the overall design is quite tasteful. However, upon entering, I found the lighting to be a bit dim, which created a somewhat gloomy atmosphere that I didn't particularly enjoy. The dishes were rather average, without much to stand out. On the bright side, the service was decent, and the staff were friendly. Overall, the experience was just okay.
