I've been going to Charlies Kitchen since 1988 and it's only gotten better over the decades. The new menu is great and of course you can still get the OG double cheeseburger. The service is always great. If you are in Harvard Square for the first time or after 3+ decades Charlies Kitchen is a must.

Really great price to quality ratio! Only $12 for a double cheeseburger with fries. Space is a little tight for an electric wheelchair but still maneuverable.

Listen..... from what I'm told this is a staple in Harvard Square. I'm unsure why. It's considered a dive bar but it just gives old place on the corner, not even a true dive. The tvs are super small and placed awkwardly in the bar. I ordered the crab Cakes, lobster roll, and mozzarella sticks. The crab Cakes were HORRIBLE. They were flat, mushy and mealy tasting. I sent them back. The lobster roll was not bad. The half order is enough for 1 person. Warm butter is served on the side and needed. I ordered a sidecar at the bar and the bartender had no idea what it was. She brought me a Manhattan of some kind. I had to show her the recipe online. I stuck with cider after that.

Unfortunately our experience at Charlie’s kitchen tonight has put us off from returning. We’ve been a handful of times and have enjoyed the environment and our experience. However…the male bartender tonight smelled so bad that the entire bar/restaurant stunk of body odor. We initially thought it was the person we sat next to, so we moved to the other end of the bar…but discovered that the bartender was the offender when he came around to wipe down the area next to us. The lack of personal hygiene from someone that is serving food/drinks made us question the level of cleanliness in general. We are not likely to return, which is a shame.
Updating: 3 to a 5. Newish bartender, handled the Sunday noon (11/2) crowd like a champ. Complete professional, exactly what we need as patrons, customer service. Nice dude and I will be going back because of the service upgrade. Thank you sir.

Beautiful patio view but limited choices on the menu if not vegan. The Drunken Garlic Shrimp was delicious and recommended by the server (who was awesome)!! Sadly there was only one server for all the guests during a busy lunch and finally the bartender came out (since the bar was completely empty) to help. The manager stood on the side watching the chaos doing nothing. The table next to us was ready to check out and asked the manager for assistance but she said they would have to wait for the server. We did the same but I told the manager I have somewhere to be and to assist us now please. Odd a manager can’t even assist with closing the checks. Otherwise cute patio and good food. Management- 1/10

When I was preg with my first born, nothing set well with me, unless I was at Charlies. No matter what I ate at Charlies, my soon to be born was content.
For myself, the burgers were cooked to perfection. The fries the same. The atmosphere was expected to old school. It was a haunt that welcomed me and mine anytime I crossed their threshold. Perfect.

Have an amazing underground bar. The atmosphere was awesome. Obviously during the winter going to be most likely closed down. But in any other time it should be good. Autumn spring summer. And also the chicken tenders buffalo style out of this world

Visiting the area and popped in for lunch. Part diner, part bar, all excellent! Friendly staff (thanks Anish!), atmosphere is a bit 50's diner with modern music playing. Not too loud, but enough to get your foot tapping.
Ordered the turkey club. The bread to turkey to avocado to tomato to lettuce ratio was perfectly balanced. Bread nicely toasted. Avocado added a wonderful creamy textual element. Everything came together to create an amazingly juicy bite.
Their famous double cheeseburger is brilliant. Famous for a reason. Two perfectly cooked patties with cheese. Thick tomato slice, pickle and lettuce. It is juicy, balanced with flavors and textures.
I did order a side of chili and added it to the burger (in bites) and I will say that this version with a little yellow mustard was my favorite bite. Reminds me of Tommy's back in Los Angeles. Simply amazing.
Fries were also a nice accompaniment. Added chili to them also and they were great both ways.
100% would come back. This place is a yes!
