Why is it so hard to find decent, authentic Taiwanese food in Boston? Dumpling Xuan, at the very least, doesn't pretend to be Taiwanese, unlike a lot of other so-called "Taiwanese" establishments in the area.
Ordered stinky tofu and "Taiwan style" beef noodle soup. Stinky tofu came out certainly stinky (good) but was not served with any sauce whatsoever. When you order stinky tofu, it's supposed to be served with soy and chili sauce. No surprise then that the tofu was bland as hell. Even when I asked for chili sauce they brought out the Sichuan style oily hot sauce rather than the garlicky sambal-esque sauce that stinky tofu is usually served with.
Beef noodle soup too was light in color and bland. Taiwanese beef noodle soup is supposed to be dark in color and very aromatic/fragrant from the spices. It was none of that.
There is a serious epidemic of restaurants in Boston serving fraudulent Taiwanese dishes and Dumpling Xuan is just another one of them.

These are the best soup dumplings I’ve ever had. That said, I went to pay and she told me they couldn’t accept cards for orders under $30… which I know isn’t true. When I told her I knew that wasn’t true, she said, well they prefer cash. I find dishonestly really frustrating.

Ordered take out, huge mistake. Food looks, smells, and tastes absolutely horrible. DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM, GO SOMEPLACE ELSE.

I thought it is a decent Chinese restaurant as per all good reviews. But some dishes are not tasty at all. Good environment and good service though. But I won’t go back.

This is a delicious, no-frills restaurant. We got pork dumplings, Shanghai noodles, and mapo tofu and all were excellent. Service was good and the prices were reasonable. Highly recommend!

I walked from my Kendall Square hotel just to take a break from MIT. This place is ridiculously tasty. Get the scallion pancake wrapped beef. Super nice people. Excellent selection of soft drinks.
