Took 20 minutes to get an Americano (espresso + water…) and not a well extracted espresso at that
Easily the best around
Busy location around Harvard square. There is plenty of outdoor seating and inside. The place was too busy, so we just ordered ice americanos to go. Was just okay, but the price was reasonable. The size offerings are smaller than traditional shops. Only had 10oz for ice drinks.
Great tasting coffee, and I love that the oat milk is the baseline milk option
I had heard a lot of good things about Faro so I went in with high expectations. I was bummed they weren’t met.
We ordered 2 cappuccinos with oat milk (since the cow milk was extra $) and one tasted sour while the other tasted watery. The cheesecake was good though. Don’t plan to return given the strong cafe competition in the area
Rating this a 5 because we absolutely need more businesses like this with the huge caveat that the espresso was not good. Had a cortado; the milk must have been like 160 deg, after a few minutes I still couldn't hold it (when I steam milk, I can hold a steel pitcher up until 135 or so). Though, maybe that was because I got it to go and people get annoyed if they taste their milk drink in 10 minutes and it's barely warm, so that's not a huge issue other than the risk of scalding.
Couldn't really taste the espresso and what I could taste was mostly bitter.
But again. Please give them money, I love the no laptop rule. And, tbqh, if you're a serious coffee drinker/can tell that it's not great, everyone knows you're gonna make what you like yourself at home with your damn DF64 / Profitec GO with Normcore accessories and post about puck prep in r/espresso.
This hip bohemian cafe is a great place to hang out, relax, and enjoy a great drink. We got two hot chai teas, which were delicious not too sweet or spicy. Love the decor of photos and other collage-like materials. A somewhat eccentric collection of international board games were in the corner near the counter. Limited indoor seating, but there is additional seating outside. Service was fast and friendly when we visited.
What an awesome coffee shop! Read on to find out why:
1. The interior is quaint and cozy, but oddly, there’s plenty of room for everybody to have space to enjoy their drink.
2. Staff was engaged and I enjoyed the conversation that we had.
3. The coffee tasted good. I’ve been to many coffee shops that look great but the coffee just doesn’t get you full experience that you hoped for. Good coffee here.
4. If you’re feeling generous, they have a bulletin board where you can buy a coffee for someone and leave it for them for later. I decided to do this and I think it’s an awesome addition to this space.
All around well worth visiting highly recommend check out the photos to get a sense of the space.
I admit I can be snobbish about coffee (still haven't found a cafe in Boston/Cambridge that I wholeheartedly love with no caveats) but I really, really hated the coffee here. I got a flat white and the pull was so watery I couldn't taste the coffee (or even the milk)!!! There was no creamy mouthfeel at all. They have a La Marzocco but I have honestly made better coffee with an entry level espresso machine. Seriously, I was so disappointed. At least the latte art was decent.
Coffee aside, I would come back for the basque cheesecake. It's really creamy, and unlike other basque cheesecakes, didn't skimp on the burnt top. But I don't go to cafes just for pastries.
Service was good. Though a bit busy, the place is intimate and cozy with lots of plants and good music. They do have a no-laptop policy so it's nice to come and just relax.

My favorite Cafe in the neighborhood. I am there every morning for my coffee and some reading time, and then there all weekend for the different music and cultural events they host. I love the ethos of Faro. It is a comforting, warm, and inviting space that helps remind me to slow down and take a breath. Fantastic Cortado and amazing ambiance. The employees have always made me feel so welcome.

A laptop-less outpost ravissant for coffee and conversation by day, then refuge for the dancing bohemian by night, Faro is a rare specimen. To put it plainly: I’ve acquired many a cup a joe in my time from both far and wide; and this is my favorite coffee shop.
At risk of setting expectations too high, it should be noted that each member of the staff there knows the respective orders of their regulars, has an incredible personality, and knows their coffee to a t. They converse with guests with warmth, with intellect, and with curiosity. Credit must be given to ownership — Mila and Henry — for hiring such a staff. They too can be seen working the floor everyday alongside their kind and considerate employees. This fish rocks from the head down.
In a world of ever increasing disarray, Faro stays the tempest in their little skiff and offers us a beacon of hope. It’s a hope for a world wherein there are more third places we can commune, find laughter, familiarity, and not be constantly bombarded by The Machine.
Sail on, you little skiff. Sail on, Faro.
Oh, and the music’s always great too :)
