Excellent food, professional service, been eating here for more than 20 years, always good. The pumpkin dish is the best!
The biggest problem we had with dinner last night was getting to Boston from Gloucester! We were delayed, but they saved our table in a corner that was quiet and it was great from there on. It has been a while since we had come to Helmand, but it will not be long before we're back.
Party of 4 order a great bottle of white and 3 of the listed Dinner Specials for that night. Don't skip the beef dumplings (appetizer)! In a great neighborhood with a lovely seating area with great ambiance.
Food is unique and delicious. The group I travel with and I go every time we are in Boston. Sometimes we go more than once.
This is one of my very favorite places to go for a reliably well-executed, delicious and reasonably healthy dinner where one can engage in conversation with one's dinner companions without shouting. Not inexpensive, but very worth it. The service is attentive and not intrusive, exactly my style. This is a wonderful restaurant that never disappoints.
Helmand is worth going to Just for the bread. But the meatballs, lamb and even vegetarian options were delicious.
This has been our favorite restaurant for years. The food is fabulous, so unique. The owner Ali & all the staff are friendly & attentive. Great portions for a great rice. The ambience is casual with good energy. We recommend it to others regularly.
This cuisine is unfamiliar to us. We enjoyed the flavorful pallow rice especially, and the lamb-carrot-raisin entree. The complimentary warm bread with dipping sauces a nice touch. Service was pleasant and efficient, the central fireplace/oven quite dramatic, most tables occupied, clearly a popular spot. And yet there was a tired quality to the menu, apparently unchanged for decades. Prices seemed high, but portions were large, we took a lot home. We had heard so much about The Helmand, we're glad to have tried it.
The food was delicious as always. The restaurant was quiet when we first got there around 6 but it got full very quickly and there was a lot of background noise. It was energetic but it wasn't easy to have a conversation for a large group. Food came out quickly and the service was good.
I had a lovely dinner with my daughters here last Friday; the kebabs and lamb stews were delicious, our server Sadaf knowledgeable and pleasant, and a really enjoyable experience all around

Dinner was outstanding, everything was delicious. Looking forward to going back and trying other things. The bread alone is worth a visit.
From entry to exit. a wonderful experience. The host was welcoming, the servers attentive and the food delicious. We ordered appetizers and our server recommended a third as we were going to order two of the same ravioli to share. So happy he did, the pumpkin was more than we could have expected. Highly recommend trying and sharing everything you can on the menu. The food is like a fireworks display of flavor in your mouth.
Service could have been better and waiter could have been around more. Food was very good. Noise level is too high. They should consider rugs to dampen the noise.
What a beautiful restaurant. I had not been in over 5 years. The restaurant continues to be esthetically beautiful, clean and well cared for. The food was absolutely delicious. The lamb, the vegetarian special were delicious. The service was great All around a stellar dinner with my family. I can't recommend highly enough.
We loved everything about our dinner tonight! The dining room was perfectly beautiful clean and comfortable and the service was great. We're already looking forward to our next visit!
