I stopped by for the first time yesterday and was instantly impressed. This place is gorgeous! Clean, beautifully laid out, and stocked with top-quality seafood. I picked up some swordfish and scallops. At first, I thought the prices were a bit steep, and while the staff told me the scallops were sashimi-grade, I wasn’t entirely convinced… but figured I’d give them a shot. Let me tell you, the moment I got home, I knew I had stumbled upon something special. No smell. Not from the scallops, not from the swordfish — just pure, fresh ocean goodness. Then I tasted the scallops raw… and WOW. Hands down, the best I’ve ever had. Sweet, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth perfection. I pan-seared both the scallops and swordfish and still couldn’t believe it. My house didn’t smell like fish at all! I even left and came back in just to double check because I was in shock 😂. The quality here is unmatched. This is, without a doubt, the freshest, cleanest seafood I’ve had in the area. Safe to say I’ll be a regular. I’m already planning my next trip back! 10/10 — Highly recommend!

I had the pleasure of buying fish today at New Deal Fish Market. I am making a new dish for guests and had some questions about what to buy. Carl, the owner, took a really long time with me and gave me tremendous advice. I really appreciate his attention and help.
I’ve been going to New Deal for years to get the best fish and seafood in the Boston metro area. I live in Roslindale but make the roughly hour round trip to Cambridge as often as I can. The variety and quality of different fish plus a consistent supply of whole fish is unmatched. Staff is helpful, knowledgeable and good people. Love these guys!

They have amazingly fresh seafoods! I got mussels from them last week, and I appreciate how the staff made sure that all the mussels were alive when being sold. The mussels from New Deal are also way fresher than those you’d get at Whole Foods. I made white wine garlic mussels dishes twice in a week and the quality of mussels from New Deal is distinctly better. I will never buy mussels at Whole Foods again (half of the bag I bought were dead mussels, and they did not taste fresh at all).
I’ve also been buying sashimi-grade fish from them for 2 years now :) really fresh salmon, tuna, and scallops!!
