Harvard Square is a lively place to simply hang out with your people
More like two and a half stars. I'm not that old, but even from my own experiences, I've seen Harvard Square collapse into an abyss of mediocrity and over-commercialization. In 2007, the neighborhood was just a little bit funkier and felt more homegrown than it does now. It's always been populated by clueless, pretentious yuppies, that's true, but there is certainly more of an influx of them these days than there was a decade ago. Bizarrely enough, this place has a rash of pan handlers camped out near the T station. As others have mentioned, many locally owned mom and pop shops have gone under, only to be replaced by coffee chains and popular stores that would've been more at home in a mall. If you are looking for a bank, a cappucino, or a white-washed location for a vegan advertisement piece, come to Harvard Square. I seem to prefer Somerville these days. Despite holding these rather harsh opinions, I will give Harvard Square credit for maintaining a rich atmosphere of fun music stores and thrift shops. Some of them are overpriced, but every once in a while, you'll find a treasure or two, even in the expensive outlets. In the end, the yuppies will win, but I'll continue to visit the Goodwill store or Boomerangs until Harvard Square is entirely engulfed by it's holier than art thou attitude.
Easy grab-and-go hot lunch, sandwiches & soup. There's a line during lunch hour, so be prepared to wait a little bit. Staff is the friendliest around!
Good sandwiches. Love the Italian auto theme to the sandwich names
