I've been going to Sumiao for about five years and to this day, it has never disappointed. My favorite dishes are the stir fried lotus root, salted duck yolk shrimp, the sizzling eggplant basil, and the purple yam baos. I am Chinese and the food is so delicious, I have taken my parents, aunt and uncle, and sibling here and they all loved it too!
We had a group of 10 people and had lunch at Sumiao. We had to temper down the spice of the dishes for the mean but they also provided hot sauce on the side for those of us that needed more spice. We had the sizzling xiaolongbao and pumpkin cakes for appetitizers which was very nice. The pumpkin cakes are sweet but complement the spicy food. Friendly service with everything explained very well. Food was delicious -- we shared a tofu dish, eggplant dish, and cold sesame noodle dish. Flavors were excellent and everything was well seasoned. It was explained up front that the style of food is spicy, but they can accommodate you in cooking dishes a little milder, which was perfect for me.
