The Locke Bar Cambridge

The only thing this place has going for it is locality. If there were other options, I’d go there. Twice I’ve walked in, and both bartenders at the corner continue to talk to each other and let me sit there for some time before offering me a menu and asking what I’d like to drink. (Pretty sure one is the manager). Most bars I go to, bartender is right there at least saying hi and dropping off a menu. A third bartender finally walks in from the back and drops off a water, but doesn’t say anything. Food is bleh. The double “smash burger” is not that great. Bar is empty most of the time. The open window till closing is meh. So…. Inattentive staff and bleh food. Again, only thing is locality…..

OMG SOO good!!! Definitely not expecting it to be m8ch different than the typical bar food but the quality still has us talking weeks later--and absolute MUST try!!

If you're a hard working Joe stay clear. Nothing but a pretentious place trying too hard for it's resources for people that like to pretend. The menu says two patties for the burger but what it doesn't say is that it was two smashed patties which both didn't total nowhere near 4oz, it had too much sauce for my liking and it took some assembly but it was tasty. The fries where clearly over cooked and might even be clocked in old oil. Probably clocked in high temperature. They were saggy and some were raw. The misses ordered a sandwich and asked if it was spicy and the waiter said no, it had jalapeños in it. I ordered a Guinness that turned out to be alcohol free even tho the menu said 5% and 16 ounces which ended up being less. I'm a burger and beer guy, it took only one look to know those weren't 16 ounces. It got removed from the bill. The waiter didn't seemed very familiar with the menu. If he was new I wouldn't hold it against him, we've all been there. All in all you pay for them to pretend to be trendy of high quality but the food it's nothing special that would render the prices, beer list needs to be better, temperature both cold and hot needs to be better. Would not recommend, would not return.

Spicy pineapple mocktail - 5/5 delicious
Espresso martini - 4/5 good nothing special

Tomato bisque - 2/5 too sour
Steak and potatoes - 5/5 so much food, 14oz of steak is a lot to eat in one sitting. I got mine medium well. The steak was topped with spinach which felt like a random choice but okay. I would have liked the potatoes better with ketchup, something more acidic than the default aioli to cut through the heaviness of the whole dish

Basque cheesecake - 4/5 less burnt than I expected, which meant less texture variety. It was just soft and fluffy. It was still good and came with ice cream, a solid end to a decadent meal

The whiskey menu, though short, was well-curated and enjoyable. However, they do not have a cocktail list past whiskey. The steak tips were disappointing—both in flavor and portion size, which was smaller than expected. In contrast, the salad was generously sized. Seating near the door was less than ideal, especially in winter, and could be reconsidered for guest comfort. The servers were friendly and attentive, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere despite the busy night.

Was closed slightly after 10:30 even though online it is listed as 11pm.

Corinne was the best! She was attentive and super helpful with recommendations. We had an overall exceptional experience and we’ll definitely be back to The Locke Bar soon!

The Locke Bar is a great after-work spot with excellent service, atmosphere, and drinks. While the fried chicken sandwich could be improved, it's still a solid choice for a post-work hangout.
