The food was incredible and everyone was super friendly. I’m glad we stopped in!
The husband and I did an order during their soft open, and it was super good! We have ordered atleast 2-3 more times since the soft open and it's always good! I've tried all their sides, brussels are DELICOUS. Zucchini salad is also VERY good. I do think it has a LOT of almonds, but I could have just gotten a nut heavy scoop, so definitely recommend!

The Smoke Shop BBQ - Harvard Square is a popular barbecue restaurant known for its excellent brisket, delicious old fashioned cocktails, and friendly, attentive staff. The barbecue is consistently praised, especially the brisket, which is a standout dish. The restaurant captures an authentic Pit Barbecue feel, complete with tin trays and a variety of sauces. Portions are generous, and the fries appetizer with pulled chicken is highly recommended. The whiskey selection is great, alongside fantastic pimento mac and cheese, coleslaw, and Nashville sliders.
Recent reviews highlight the delicious food, particularly the tender and juicy chicken sliders, beautifully done ribs, and spicy sausage. The full rack of ribs was especially praised for being mouthwateringly tender and plenty for two. The beef brisket, although a bit pricey with a large layer of fat, was still noted as tasty, despite some noise from the TVs playing football games that made conversation difficult. The staff could be more attentive, as water requests were overlooked, but overall, the experience was positive and many would return.
In addition to the food, the restaurant is appreciated for its allergy accommodations, with a detailed allergen menu that offers many options. This was especially helpful for a customer with celiac disease, who felt well taken care of. The menu includes a variety of meats like pork ribs, sausage, burnt ends, and the unique Pork Belly Burnt Ends, appealing to meat lovers. The sides are flavorful, with the smoked turkey being incredibly moist and tender, and the pulled chicken a favorite for leftovers. The pickled cabbage on the side of each entrée is highly enjoyed, and the BBQ fries with pulled pork are also a hit. For dessert, the gluten-free S’Layer Bar is a sweet ending worth trying.
The atmosphere is cozy and clean, with indoor and outdoor seating options. Many reviews mention the friendly staff, especially a knowledgeable and cheerful waitress named Missy, who enhances the experience with her whiskey expertise. The restaurant offers a lively, authentic feel, perfect for casual outings, especially during sports events or celebratory dinners. Overall, The Smoke Shop BBQ - Harvard Square remains a great spot for barbecue in Boston, especially for those who love a variety of meats, tasty sides, and a welcoming environment.
