Excellent food and service. Different takes on local fare (such as miso stiped bass with rice noodles). The place is noisy. If you want a little more quiet then ask for one of the high top tables for two.
They first tried seating us near the extremely noisy bar area and we told them it was unacceptable. Once we were moved to the other side, things were much better. Food was excellent, especially the grilled asparagus, double cut pork chop, the potato chip crusted cod ( the big surprise of the night) and the absolutely decadent dessert of chocolate flourless torte. Our waitress ( Julia) was a complete joy and so friendly and accommodating. She alone made the entire experience 5 star. We can't wait to go back in August
We love Pates! So excited to visit every summer. Heather was an amazing server! 10/10 would recommend.
Fabulous menu and I am celiac and the menu is predominantly gluten free. The quality of the food is the best in quality, taste and presentation I've had on Cape Cod. My favorite restaurant!
We’ve made Pate’s a cherished stop on every Cape Cod vacation, it’s been a highlight for us. But this visit, was a complete letdown!
- Drinks took over 30 minutes to arrive
- Our appetizer—tuna cones—came out before the drinks, even after waiting 15 minutes to order them.
- When they did arrive, the tuna cones were mostly hollow with giant, sloppy mounds of wasabi cream on top, barely a trace of tuna in them!
- Wedge salad, had two entirely different presentations—ours sloppy and underdressed but the table next to us had a crisp, clean piled high plate.
There was zero consistency coming out of the kitchen. It felt like no one was paying attention to quality—or even trying to maintain standards. All dishes were sloppy and looked very unprofessional.
Meanwhile, the bartenders were completely overwhelmed, and the manager was standing just hangout out at the front or just walking around ( not talking to guests) , making no effort to help or check in with the bar.. you would expect an all hands on deck situation with how horrible everything was running throughout the entire restaurant. The manager did not offer any apology or acknowledgment of the delays.... And I'm sorry would have gone a long way! It didn’t feel like anyone was even in charge.
The only reason we didn’t walk out was Julia, our server. She was kind, composed, and completely on top of it despite the chaos around her. Her grace under pressure was the only redeeming part of the evening. A five star experience, inside a 1 star dining experience.
We’ve left Pate’s in past years feeling full, happy, and eager to return. This time, we left wondering whether the place we once loved even still exists.
I’ve enjoyed many meals at Pates. But recently I and a friend ordered my favorite dishes and I was very disappointed. The wedge salad was smaller and underdressed. The Peking duck tacos were dry and the pasta in the seafood pan roast was undercooked and sticking together. We were asked how dinner was by the host as we left and very politely said dinner was disappointing and we were regulars there. The host said “sorry. “ I would have expected something more and won’t return any time soon. Not how I would treat a good customer.
Our dinning experience did not let us down, 4 of had dinner and cocktails. Kitty the waitress was amazing and also the first “Kitty” I have ever met with the same name as me! Shrimp scampi, Seafood Alfredo and Ahi Tuna all exceeded our expectations.
First visit since the remodel! Great service, amazing appetizers, phenomenal entrees. Would 10/10 recommend and dine again.
Always great food and great service, not to mention a wonderful, varied menu. And the restaurant is open off-season when others are not.
We had a relaxed and enjoyable time during our meal. Kate who was our server did an excellent job and was very personable and friendly. The food was excellent. We will be back again.

Had Easter dinner here and it was phenomenal from service to the meal! Atmosphere was extremely cozy and comfortable. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
We have been delighted by dinner at Pate's Restaurant so many times over the years. Our overall experience at Easter brunch today was disappointing. We didn't know they were open for brunch until we recently saw their menu on facebook, but when we heard, we canceled our reservation at another establishment to be able to visit Pates. Our waitress was friendly and quickly upsized us on our drink order. She made glowing remarks about our food selection. We started with clam chowder which was warm but not hot. We wanted the usual tabasco accompaniment, but she delivered the chowder quickly and took off before we could comment. We didn't see her for quite some time after. It was not very busy there. By the time she got back to us, our chowder was cold and our main dish was served. We didn't finish our chowder and she asked if she could remove it since the entree had arrived. She had no comment about why we didn't finish, or why our brunch was served before our first course was finished. My husband had smoked salmon benedict and he liked it. I had eggs on avocado toast over arugula salad. The eggs were not overcooked but they were cold. The salad would have been delightful with heirloom tomatoes, seasonal radish and arugula which was very fresh. However, it was overdressed and drowned in the balsamic. Fresh is wonderful but I couldn't fully appreciate the exceptional greens. We looked forward to dessert, but alas, they had no dessert at all. We thought that Easter brunch is not remarkable without some chocolate or other seasonal concoction What would the Easter bunny think! The quality of ingredients is high so we weren't quibbling over price, but we do note that our server was friendly but not too aware, and we think the quality of ingredients was high, but prep and kitchen timing was mediocre. Since we have had many fine dinners at Pates, and we often give gift certificates to friends from Pates, we are not giving up on them. Next year, we hope they consider
The food was good, but we waited possibly 40 minutes between our appetizer and the main course. After about 30 minutes the waitress explained that the kitchen was backed up badly. I believe earlier communication would have helped. She mentioned that a number of the cooks were new. Our food finally arrived. A couple near us who were seated about 10 minutes after us got their entry before we did. I understand it is the start of the season and we will be back, but management should know of the issue.
Filet all fat. Brought a new which was fine but with with the same sides that were charred from sitting under the broiler. Three water requests unfulfilled. No real attempts to rectify things. Disappointing
Our first experience at Pate's with new ownership. The food was honestly the best we've had in recent memory. Highly recommend the pork chops and the filet. Our guests had the salmon and the pasta dish and were raving about them. Can't wait to go back!
