We went tonight for my wife’s 60th birthday. It was myself, my wife and my adult son. My wife and I got the sirloin and my son got the filet mignon. We had not been there for over a year …it was my wife’s choice of restaurants being a special occasion. It was nothing like we had experienced in the past. The steaks were of low quality and the sides were warm. We are not people to send our food back so we ate it .. You just don’t expect to drop $300 for a meal and leave with a sour taste in your mouth!!

I was told by a neighbor this place was great. So I showed up a 4:00 and was told to come back at 5:00. Took a drive came back at five and had a seat at the bar .I was the only one in other than a couple at the bar. I sat there for 7 min before the bartender came over. I ordered a Coke and a menu I got the coke 5 min later .I knew what I wanted for food but the bartender kept ignoring me After another 10 min I was so angry with her I put a dollar on the bar and left. I went there to eat not to socialize or entertain a guest. I wanted to be there 1 hr and the service I was getting was going to take 2hrs.I went early so I wouldn't be there all night. So I cant vouch for the food .I wont go back unless I have all night to kill. It's ok they lost 100.00

have loved The Sun Tavern in Duxbury for over 30 years. The colonial charm, excellent food, and warm hospitality always made it a special place. Sadly, my recent visit was a major disappointment.

The oysters were fresh, but the mussels were overcooked, with several unopened and inedible. Service was careless at best. A simple request for an extra piece of toast with our mussels was refused because “the chef was too busy.” Later, the bartender offered plain bread she had already forgotten to bring.

The wine service was worse. My sister asked to taste a Malbec and was given a one ounce pour in a tiny aperitif glass instead of a proper wine glass. When we questioned it, the manager was curt and dismissive, telling me to lower my voice and insisting “you asked for a taste, and that is what you got.” The owner eventually came out and repeated, “I’ll make it right,” but never explained how. We decided to leave and dined elsewhere, where the hospitality was far better.

Later, I noticed their website only shows reviews from 2014 to 2016, back when the previous owner was in charge. That explains a lot.

The Sun Tavern once set the standard, but it no longer values its guests. Between the poor food, rude service, and lack of hospitality, it is not worth the price. There are far better options nearby.

Started off with the falafel, which had a hint of spice and were the perfect consistency with a nice crispy exterior. The burger was delicious and cooked to perfection.

To start the bartender when asked for a drink menu she basically threw it so it slid over the bar to us, absolutely no warm and fuzzy feeling from her whatsoever, my husband asked for his steak to be medium rare and got medium well when mentioned to the bartender she said well were training someone new in the kitchen and walked away ur ill take care of you and ended up giving him a free dessert but the reason for me posting this is because when you take the time to dine out, spend the money which is always a lot, why is it you very rarely get good service anymore everyone always seems to be like they don’t want to be there….!

I love everything about the Sun Tavern! The cozy historic home in a wooded setting, the various rooms that each have their own character, the classics that have a slight twists and perfect-sized portions, fair prices, and the warm hospitality and flawless service — it’s both familiar and exciting!

We normally sit at the bar, but have brought friends and family to sit at a table took the food is delicious. Love the steak tips, but their sandwiches are great too. They have the best salmon burger I’ve had in a while. They have a good craft beer menu too, and even offered Heady Topper, but their beer list doesn’t change much otherwise. Really cool historic building that is interesting to learn the history behind.

The best wine slushy I have had! The live entertainment outdoors was nice, but it took awhile to get a place to sit, bit over all it was nice. Also they have an area for kids to play!

As a member of the Boston Vegetarian Society and a vegan for over three decades, I was delighted to discover delicious vegan options on the menu at the Sun Tavern. The culinary standout, smoked tofu, surpassed expectations with its extraordinary flavors and textures, while my wife Meg's pasta dish presented a delicate balance of hearty and fresh locally grown ingredients. Celebrating our 44th anniversary in such a charming ambiance was a true treat. The Sun Tavern’s commitment to delivering satisfying and robust vegan cuisine positions it among the finest dining experiences in the South Shore area, ensuring it takes a well-deserved place on the vegan-friendly epicurean map. We were thrilled to have Sasha as our server. She knows the menu, both food and wine, has a great manner and is so kind. Another couple was there and told her, “we had you last year and are thrilled to see you again.”
I wish she was there more often.
The Sun Tavern is one of our favorite places to eat in Duxbury.
