Phenomenal dining experience. Great vibe, food and drinks. Nice selection of NE craft brews on tap and the staff is very transparent about animal product sourcing.

Fun vibe. Good food, especially the fried chicken. Neither of us loved our drink (glass of wine & a cocktail) but we’d like to try this place again.

Reserved a table of six for a birthday celebration. Staff invited us to the table, we ordered drinks and appetizers to share. Every plate was great, all local produce, well presented and delicious. Steak tartare was exceptional. Mains were all very good, the burgers, the chicken under brick, the hake dish really delicious as was the tagliatelle with spicy sausage. Will definitely recommend this place. Keep up the great work!

Fun upscale pub vibe with good food. I think the name is a reference to Herman Melville, who lived in this area. The farm to table menu is delicious and the atmosphere is fun.

Some of most delicious food I’ve had in a while — and in a relaxed, family friendly environment. Easily 5 stars, would recommend.

Recently had an excellent meal at The Prairie Whale--crostini starter and pork schnitzel (special) were perfectly prepared. My only suggestion would be to trim back some of the foliage near the sign--it's hard to see and those of us who aren't locals depend on signage to know where we are going! ;-)

Rustic look in a historic house in Great Barrington. The menu was limited but what we tasted was excellent. I had a Wagu beef cheeseburger with fries that I loved. My friend had the special of grilled pork cheeks sauteed veggies and he was delighted. If I get back to Great Barrington, this will be repeat

This is a great place to eat and meet and talk with local folks. There's a jazz trio led by a friend of mine who teaches young kids how to play jazz. And, they are remarkably good musicians! The atmosphere is pure funk and delightful. The servers are terrific and very friendly. Go there. You won't regret it.

Ordered the burger last night. While it was cooked perfectly, the bun was cheap junk and became completely soggy immediately. Toppings were lazy an unimaginative: thickly sliced white onion and odd shaped crunchy romaine?. All rich salty, fatty flavors with no balance of acid— no pickles! Side of mayo was fun. Fries weren’t bad.Asked for mustard and ground pepper and it never came.Thankfully the Side Salad was just a pile crunchy green lettuce -nothing else- dowsed in white white vinegar, that kinda helped. KindaI’ll be back, in the spring maybe. Service is always nice and staff is friendly.

Parking: Free parking in the lot.
