Sometimes traveling solo can be an isolating experience so it was a joy to be warmly greeted and made to feel welcome at Alta. I chose to sit at the bar to have dinner though I was offered a table. The owner greets guests with sincere enthusiasm aiming to please, checking in frequently making sure you have what you need. Lisa, the bartender, was friendly and efficient serving food, making drinks, helping out where needed. I had the salmon quesadillas and a local lager. The portion was huge-a perfect entree to share or in my case take home. It was served with salsa, guacamole and sour cream-all fresh and tasty. The rest of the menu had something for everyone, same goes for the wine list. I look forward to returning with friends next time to sample other entrees and share a bottle of wine. Wonderful ambience and a dedicated owner who knows what the word hospitality means.

We saved Alta for THE special dinner of our trip to Lenox. Rave reviews on this site gave us high expectations and great anticipation. But the food was just okay. We were greeted enthusiastically by a friendly maitre d', and seated promptly. Our waitress was excellent. No issues with the staffers at all. But the bread was - bread. Nothing special, with no enticing warmth. One of our meals had hot cod, but the vegetables were cool. Should they have been that way? We didn't believe so. Prices were top dollar, as are the other restaurants on Church Street in Lenox, but for us, the meals didn't seem worth what we paid. The meal we had the night before at a different establishment on Church Street left these two meals far behind. It's hard to not compare, so we DID compare. Alta is warm and friendly, but the food we had was middling.

My wife and I had a short trip to the Berkshires and was given this spot as a recommendation. What a gem! Food, service, hospitality - all excellent. We both had the duck and it was some of the best I’ve had. No joke (and I’ve had dozens of plates, too). Make sure you get a reservation, though!! The host had to turn away dozens of people on a Saturday.

Delicious, elegant cuisine and inimitable atmosphere. Well worth a trip from a distance, but be sure to get your reservation first.
Walked in without reservation and got immediate seating at the bar. Great service but the kitchen was slower than expected. Last visit here we were a bit disappointed; the food had been under seasoned. This visit the food was excellent. We really enjoyed the pork cheeks bourgauigon and the glazed salmon with crispy skin.

What we really liked was the fact that it was a bit different to the norm. American food can get a bit 'samey' and this was a notch above. Friendly welcome, efficient staff and an all round positive experience. Food, of course, was excellent.

This was the first place we wanted to try in Lenox, and the website said that they didn't take reservations. We showed up, but learned that a reservation is needed. So we made one for a few nights later, and we are so glad we did. It was such a pleasant atmosphere, food was very good. My husband had the swordfish, I had the cod. The presentation was beautiful on both. Definitely would go back here.

Great food! Mushroom risotto had great consistency and the celery salad on top cut through the richness. The oven roasted chicken was the star of the show, perfectly cooked and flavorful throughout. Service was more than accommodating with the owner checking in on us multiple times to make sure everything was taken care of. Coming back soon!
Service and food off the charts. I ordered a Bloody Mary, strong drink. I had their salmon and my wife had their steak. Both came out cooked perfectly.

Delightful Lenox restaurant with very good and interesting food. I had a watermelon, blueberry and basil soup with feta cheese. Who would have invented that excellent combination? Pork cheeks good, duck breast excellent, salmon made my Seattle guest happy. So, very good food! All this was topped off my our happy, friendly ( but not intrusive), efficient and professional server , Gabby. Thank you Gabby, your service made it lovely bc evening at Alta.

We had dinner there last night before a concert at Tanglewood. The server was extremely thoughtful and accommodating, adjusting my order per my request and bringing a new bottle of wine for my husband, all graciously! The food was excellent!!! Definitely will return!
