A Truly Exceptional Mediterranean Gem

I visited this wonderful Middle Eastern/Mediterranean restaurant tonight for dinner, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve ha not just in Massachusetts, but across many states. This place is run by an exceptionally kind, humble, and professional family whose hospitality elevates the entire experience.

The food is simply outstanding. The koshari is hands down the best I’ve ever tried. The mezza platter selections and falafel are exceptional, bursting with fresh flavors and prepared with remarkable attention to detail. I also appreciated the thoughtful approach to the menu ā€œless is more.ā€ The selection isn’t overwhelming, but every dish is crafted with such quality and precision that it leaves a lasting impression.

A special praise goes to Mrs. Sahar, the owner, whose gracious presence makes every guest feel like they are dining at home. Menna and Destiny were wonderful hosts—warm, cheerful, and genuinely welcoming. And although I didn’t meet Chef Sawsan on this visit, the food speaks for her talent and dedication. Every dish reflects her passion and care, delivering a truly unbeatable culinary experience.

I visited with my little family this time, and we left feeling so happy and satisfied. I will absolutely be recommending this restaurant to all my friends, and I’m already looking forward to coming back often.

It’s also worth mentioning that the restaurant serves mainly vegetarian and vegan dishes—no meat, poultry, or chicken—but offers creative options with impossible meat, mushrooms, sauces, and other wholesome ingredients that make every plate exciting and delicious.

If you’re looking for exceptional food, heartfelt hospitality, and a place that feels special from the moment you walk in, this restaurant is a must-visit.

This place impressed me from the moment I walked in. The ambiance, the staff, the decor - everything about Koshari Mama blew me away. Of course, for my first visit I had to try the Koshari. As soon as I received the food I was pleasantly surprised at the ample portion size and beautiful presentation. The food tasted incredible and instantly flooded me with memories of my mother’s and grandmother’s cooking. I nearly couldn’t hold back tears eating this dish. My only complaint was that I would have liked more of the sauce, but this was very minor and I most certainly will be coming back for more.

I’ve never been to an Egyptian restaurant before, and this place was definitely unique! Everything on the menu is fully vegan, and it was my first time trying the classic Egyptian dish Koshari — a mix of noodles, lentils, chickpeas, rice, tomato sauce, vinegar, and crispy onions. They also offer a few different hot sauces you can add for extra flavor. The dish was super hearty and filling. We also tried the fried cauliflower, falafel, and Fattoush salad — the salad was especially fresh and flavorful, and the sides had that classic familiar taste. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely come back when I’m in the area again.

Family of 5 including a toddler came here for a Saturday dinner. The people here are some of the kindest people I have met at a restaurant. They really know how to value customers and other places can take lessons from them. They accommodated our request to change tables as the first table we were given was close to the wash area. We ordered eggplant fries, signature Koshari dish, Muhammara, cucumber mint dip, Falafel and Konafa for dessert. You should really like eggplant to be able to enjoy the fries because it’s a long thick piece of eggplant tossed in a batter and fried. The Koshari dish was also really tasty, something I have not had before - you can even mix with sauces they provide or other dips if it feels a bit dry. The muhammara felt authentic and the cucumber dip was a little extra sour for our palate. We were told that the Konafa takes time to make and we decided to wait and it was worth the wait. There was also live music which made the experience even more special - only feed back is that we felt the music was a bit loud for the size of the place but it was nice to enjoy food with an Egyptian music. The owner and the serving people interacted joyfully with the toddler and he reciprocated and they liked him so much that they gave him a snack bag as a treat šŸ˜€ Overall a very pleasant experience!

Loved it in theory but chickpeas and lentils in koshari seemed slightly undercooked.

Recently discovered a food vlogger who explored Cairo, Egypt. Koshari caught my attention, & so I searched for Egyptian food in MA. Koshari Mama appeared, being near Somerville, I decided to try it. I began with their muhammara dip, featuring roasted red peppers & walnuts. My entree was the koshari with mild sauce. Both were packed with flavor.
