I was told by a friend to check out Maddies. To be honest. Wasn't really impressed. Food was just ok. Place busy. Local hangout. Waitress kept forgetting our drinks . I could have walked out without paying if I wanted to . Waitress nowhere to be found to ask for check. Not a " have to go back place "

This was our third year staying in Marblehead for our trip to Salem. After talking to a local down by the pier he recommended Maggie's for drinks and food. We had never been here before. When we arrived, our first visit there was only room at the bar. Which was fine we were not there to eat this time. The bartender kidded us that she was bored. Lol. She was slammed! I never once saw her lose her cool. She's my new favorite bartender. Next year I'll have to get her name. The next time we went we sat at a table, right before it filled up! We had lunch and the food was amazing! Again same bartender. The drinks are not for the weak. Lol. Overall both of our experiences were great. I will never forget them. I'm sad it took it so long to find this gem. So if you are thinking about going, do it! Tell them the girls from Michigan sent ya! See ya'll next year!

Maddie’s Sail Loft, unpretentious with a dark interior, is favored by savvy locals and smart tourists. We were served excellent food and the prices are right. We blew into town, our first visit, and there’s no direct route to M’head. Read the reviews, could have chosen a waterfront joint that was way too pricey, opted for Maddie’s and so glad we did. Courtney, the lone bartender and server was great and fun. The place was very busy. She’s been there some 7 years. The Margaritas were generous. The Fish and Chips were EXO. Fresh Haddock and piping hot. Killer fries. The Onion rings were hand battered, not frozen and soo good. Never had Fish Tacos, had seen fried fish served in the shells at other places, these were fresh pcs. of haddock within coiled shells, unable to pick up from the moist filling, but were tasty. I’d choose something else next time. Pabst Blue Ribbon is $3, the Hamburger Special is $8.99 served M-F. There is an upper dining room that was closed this day in October. It was a good day.
Parking: Street parking is challenging. I took my chances of being towed, parking at the market, but it was late October and I was all right.

Sadly townie said good place, but not for us. Brought out the wrong dish for me. The sauce was so wet. They did replace gf dish and brought me out another wrong dish I went with it. The steak tips were real tough. And at no time did manager come to see what was wrong and at the time I wasn't going to ask to see him. And they did comp anything.
The food is incredibly fresh and delicious! Strong but balanced cocktails at a very reasonable price. The bar manager Audrey was so knowledgeable and cordial about everything. Hands down my favorite place to go for a bite and a bev. 10/10 would recommend.

My rating has nothing to do with the good food this place offers. Instead, it has everything to do with the EXTREMELY POOR customer service I received on July 9th , from the staff and most disgustingly, the restaurant owner, Loretta, regarding an issue I had with a recently purchased meal. I would give it a negative rating if I could! The entire issue began July 7th, a Sunday night. I purchased the Fra Diavolo and a peach pie dessert as a take-out order. After arriving home, my meal spilled completely out of the bottom of the brown paper bag it was packaged in, which was saturated with the meal’s sauce that leaked from an improperly placed lid. I spent two days calling the restaurant (no one answered), driving to and from the restaurant (a 45-minute drive both ways), speaking with the staff and a manager (nothing was done), and waiting on a phone call from Loretta (never received a call). I even provided pictures of my spilled meal on the ground and the ripped bag. After waiting two days, I had high hopes for a satisfied resolution. However, I was unfortunately met with the most disrespectful and unprofessional behavior I have ever encountered from a person in a higher position of setting the best example of customer service. In front of her staff and patrons, Loretta repeatedly yelled in my face, accused me of badgering staff, and refused to return a full refund to me. She had no desire of ever addressing my concern, offered no way of apology or consideration for the food mishap or what I have been through to make my unpleasant situation right, and became upset that I was persistent in doing so. After all, it was my hard-earned money! I have dined here with friends in the past, and I have NEVER had any issue with food or staff. In today’s time, being a woman of color keeps my nerves on edge on how I am treated in a less diverse environment, especially when my intentions are pure on treating people with the same respect as I would want to be treated. In any dining setting, I would like to experience the same joyous experience as everyone else around me and that includes having my concerns addressed in an appropriate manner. Maddie’s Sail Loft may have good food to taste, but the customer’s experience goes beyond just delicious food. Maddie’s is no longer the place for me!
