Marblehead is full of history and charm, and Plus Café fits right into that rhythm. It sits along the small commercial stretch in the old town, surrounded by boutiques and little artsy shops (check out the rubber duck shop!).
The atmosphere feels welcoming, nothing forced, nothing overly styled, just comfortable and lived-in.
They do a very good selection of cakes here, especially cheesecakes. It’s the sort of counter where you find yourself pausinglonger than you meant to, trying to weigh up your options. The coffee is solid too, better than many places in tourist towns. The crowd seems to be a mix of locals and wandering visitors, which usually says something good about a café’s role in the community.
Some reviews mention the prices being on the higher side. I suppose that depends entirely on what you’re used to. If you’re coming from New York, London, or most major cities, you’ll likely find it quite reasonable. If you’re measuring it against the “small town café” ideal of twenty years ago… perhaps a touch more.
Still, it feels like you’re paying for quality and for a place that’s genuinely pleasant to sit for a while.
If you’re exploring Marblehead,,especially the older part of town, this is an easy, worthwhile stop. A good coffee, a slice of something indulgent, and a moment to sit and watch the world move slowly by. Hard to argue with that.

We had a coffee and a cheesecake at this cafe. The coffee was good, but the cheesecake was worse than terrible, it tasted like playdough with lemon aroma, we managed just one bite and left it be.

It’s refreshing to find a café that makes you feel at home. This café does it for you. The latin tango/chill café del Mar music that soothes your soul. The friendly owner and staff ready to chat and help you choose which dessert to pick. It feels like family.
The sandwiches wraps, pastries- authentic Italian, Greek and French desserts. I am in the process of trying them all. I have to make sure I don’t dive into a sugar coma.
Thank goodness I am only here for a month. I will be as big as a house trying the tiramisu category-they have several.

The coffee itself is commendable—rich in flavor and brewed with evident care.
However, the service experience leaves much to be desired. During my visit, the staff appeared disengaged and inattentive, which detracted from the overall welcoming environment. Despite the cafe not being particularly busy, there was a noticeable lack of promptness and courtesy in taking and fulfilling orders. This level of service does not align with the quality of the beverages served.
In summary, while Plus Cafe excels in providing excellent coffee within a comfortable setting, the subpar service significantly impacts the overall experience. With improvements in staff training and customer engagement, this establishment has the potential to enhance its reputation and customer satisfaction.
