Scam hotel...made reservations, paid for this in advance and they sent us to a 1- star run down and dirty (room wasn’t even cleaned from prior guest), sister hotel called Pineapple Hotel. Worst experience ever. Then the manager literally disappeared.

We went to dinner on the Saturday evening of the stroll- reservations were at 6 to be on the early side of an expected busy weekend. Unfortunately the restaurant appeared unorganized although not yet busy. We waited close to an hour for our dinner and realized our waitress most likely forgot to place our order after finally noticing us and asking us what we ordered. No attention or check ins for drinks, water. No acknowledgement of the delay and lacking basic etiquette. Food was good but with lack of service and delays it overshadowed the ultimate meal. By the time we were leaving There were several people inquiring about their delay with reservations. Ironically we could have been out of there at least 30 minutes prior and another table near us had been empty for 15 minutes. It clearly seemed like an unmanaged restaurant.

Very odd experience. Have been here once before and it was fabulous but this most recent time was very unpleasant. We waited for over 10 minutes before any member of staff approached us despite having a reservation and waiters constantly walking through the room. Eventually there were so many people waiting to be seated that the hostess emerged and, looking rather confused and flustered, attempted to seat us while two tables of people walked out and warned us not to stay since they had been waiting over an hour for food. We reluctantly sat and saw diners getting up to serve themselves water and fetch utensils, so after 15 minutes of sitting with no one approaching us we just got up and left. A disappointing experience overall.

It seemed a very off night for what we have heard about this place. I don't know if the restaurant was extremely short staffed or if something else had gone awry but we waited 30 min to get a bottle of wine, one of the girls at the table was continually bumped into by employees, several members of the staff were rude/unapologetic.

The fresh fish (Salmon) and salads were extremely good and cooked to perfection! The ambience is charming, warm and quaint. The problem was with the servers and very poor management. We were rather shocked at the lack of organization and attentiveness not only our table of two but others around us also experienced. The right hand didn't seem to know what the left hand was doing. For example our server didn't inform us of any dinner specials but then couple next to us were. When asked about it she said, “The chef did not tell her about any specials.” The table between us and another couple was broken down and removed — only then to be brought back a few minutes later which was a bit of an interruption. The staff seemed unhappy and at odds with each other so it was very uncomfortable at times. Overall the food is great but the management/employees needs much improvement.

Horrible experience over Christmas stroll. Waited 15 minutes just to be seated when the restaurant was completely empty. The waitstaff was extremely overwhelmed by just a few tables of people. The food was practically inedible and made us very sick after. Not to mention us and the tables around were given the wrong checks multiple times. Highly do not recommend!

New chef and there during Christmas stroll which means exceptional volume of people. Friendly staff but slightly overwhelmed by the non stop grind of Stroll weekend. Limited menu for stroll. Food was tasty but not exceptional like the previous chef. Example, lobster bisque didn't have the one large piece of lobster I would have expected. Would go back during non stroll to see the what the restaurant is really capable of.

We arrived at the restaurant on time and was promptly seated. This was then followed by at least 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence, and then only because we flagged someone down. The ordering process was a challenge and several dishes were delivered incorrect. Wine was opened in the back and poured into existing glasses which is a faux pas in fine dining. The place was not that busy but the limited staff seemed to be very overwhelmed with the process. When we asked if the two steaks being delivered were medium rare or medium well, the server responded “I don't know”. Very disappointing evening - food was fairly good once it was corrected, but not a service experience that I would want to repeat.

We had a lovely dinner at 29 Fair following the Nantucket tree lighting on Main Street. The dining room in this circa 1709 historic inn was not much warmer than the frosty outdoors, but we warmed up eventually with some help from an electric space heater. The menu, recited to us by the chef, largely consisted of his suggestions based upon what he had on hand to be prepared according to our wishes. There was no beer, but the wine list offered appealing selections at a variety of price points. To be honest, at the outset, I thought we were in for a disappointing evening, but our entrées came to the table fresh, hot and beautifully presented--filet mignon with creamy mushroom risotto, Nantucket scallops, and a papardelle bolognese, all three delicious. The chef offered a made-to-order crème brulée, but we all had enjoyed our dinner so much that we had no room left for dessert. This dining adventure left all of us in good spirits and feeling welcomed and satisfied. I would recommend 29 Fair to anyone who is looking for something other than the same-old same-old--although, if you go during Nantucket's off season, do bring a sweater.

(June 27, 2019) The Nantucket Health Department closed the historic 29 Fair Street Inn and restaurant at the same location last week after a routine inspection. “The entire property lacked hot water and a working alarm system,” health director Roberto Santamaria said of the issues that were the most wide-reaching among the problems that prompted the closing. The premises were condemned and declared unfit for human habitation. Although the term “condemned” alone means a building is structurally unsound, that is not the case with this property. When coupled with the term “unfit for human habitation,” it refers to a violation of the state Department of Health’s minimum standards of fitness for human habitation.

We went to Restaurant Week dinner on Sunday. The crab cake appetizer and pot de chocolate dessert were wonderful. However the old world pasta was just OK. Some years ago, the former chef, who was from India, made a wonderful pasta with bechemal sauce, cinnamon and nutmeg. It reminded many of the Greek Pasticcio. It was a ten. Tonight’s pasta did not have any bechemal sauce or cinnamon it was a bland five. Too bad they lost the old recipie

Avoid like the plague. Bad food, worse service. Really unfortunate as it was amazing food and service in 2017. I would have given my 2017 meal/experience 5 stars but this was absolutely the worst.
