Amazing!
As someone who takes pride in choosing thoughtful, high-quality accommodations when traveling, I can confidently say that Greydon House in Nantucket exceeded expectations. Located right in the heart of downtown, it was the perfect choice for a weekend stay. I specifically wanted to be close to the Steamship Authority ferry, great restaurants, and downtown shopping—and this location delivered on all fronts.
From the moment we checked in, we were warmly welcomed by friendly staff and a personable, attentive manager who set the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable stay. The location couldn’t be more convenient: a three-minute walk to one of the best lobster rolls you’ll ever have at Walter’s, a charming coffee and pastry shop directly across the street, and the Whaling Museum just steps away.
Given the unbeatable location, we weren’t expecting much from the room itself—but we were genuinely impressed. Our room was cozy and well-appointed, with high-end toiletries, beautiful shower tile, and an exceptionally comfortable bed. Harney & Sons tea and quality coffee were available all day, which was a much-appreciated touch.
One of the highlights of our stay was Via Mare, the on-site restaurant. Although we enjoyed every meal during our visit to Nantucket, this restaurant stood out. The oysters were among the best I’ve ever had, and the cocktails were both creative and delicious.
Despite the cool weather, we found ourselves drawn again and again to the charming side porch. Whether we were reading, chatting, watching the Memorial Day parade, or enjoying takeout meals, it became a favorite spot throughout our stay.
Greydon House offers a rare combination of location, charm, and service—and we’ll absolutely be returning.
The room I stayed in here was amazing. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was absolutely gorgeous. The staff here were all very polite, friendly, and helpful. The location of this hotel is phenomenal. If you’re just walking around town you’re never too far away and it’s so easy to come back to drop things off and enjoy the downtown area.
Enjoyed my stay, the staff was very helpful, & friendly.
It’s very classy and cozy. Friendly staff. Conveniently close to shopping, dining, and ferry
Nice space but my room the first night was right above restaurant bar— loud and smelled like fried calamari. Stayed a second night and moved to third floor, lovely quiet room with no restaurant noise or smell.
The staff was very kind, and the restaurant attached is charming… just try and avoid sleeping over it:)
Staff was very friendly and attentive. The receptionist made a special trip to buy fresh oranges for our 1 and a half your old son. Excellent location in Nantucket town. Rooms are cozy and clean with nice tile scenes in the showers. Also, the attached restaurant was very good.
Perfect, charming hotel
Difficult parking depending on the time of day
On the other hand, avoid the restaurant: extremely overpriced and frankly not good at all
At least for a French palate
The olive oil from the 3 anchovy fillets didn’t even have the color (I live in Nice!)
5 slices of bread on the side with a little butter11$!
Very very disappointing value for money compared to other restaurants on the island
Too bad because the decoration is nice
Exceptional stay at Greydon House, Nantucket
Our recent stay at Greydon House was exceptional. From the moment we arrived, I was struck by the charming ambiance of the hotel. With an artisan’s eye, one would notice the impressive quality of the tile work, woodworking, and decor throughout the property, which added to the overall aesthetic appeal.
The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring restful nights during our stay. The hospitality we received from front desk staff, particularly Stephanie, and manager John was outstanding. They were not only reactive to assist with any issues—albeit minor—but also went above and beyond by recommending nearby restaurants and activities, even ensuring our reservations were taken care of.
The location of Greydon House is perfect for exploring Nantucket, making it an ideal choice for travelers. I highly recommend this gem for anyone looking for a memorable experience in Nantucket.

An overpriced ripoffFirst off the room was tiny. It was also nearly $700 for the night. It didn't have a desk, or even a chair. And neither did the lobby. So if you needed to get any work done on a laptop you really wouldn't be able to unless you are ok balancing it on your lap while in bed.
The vanity in the bathroom was also practically non-existent with no space to set one's toothbrush and other toiletries.
The fan on the AC unit was silent and the walls were thin so even thought it wasn't a loud place every noise outside and in the surrounding rooms was auditable.
The adjoining restaurant was overpriced too. The bar had no beer on tap and lacked some basic ingredients for standard cocktails. Also the bar was unsanitary and dirty
There was little to no parking available.
And breakfast consisted of a muffin.
So while it was a nice hotel, it was lacking in features and amenities that even the least expensive most basic hotels always provide. That's why I call this place an overpriced ripoff.

If sleep is what you want to do, this isn’t the place. The restaurant can be heard through the entire building, the doors and walls let anything through. They have no regard for anyone trying to sleep.
Rooms: They are ok, lacking any type of fridge. The shower is 3 handles with no way of knowing how it works besides just moving them and hoping it works.

I checked into the Greydon house with my two 5 lb yorkies because supposedly this is a dog friendly hotel. The Federal suite was not at all what it was advertised to be (spacious with outdoor space) . It was two small boxes of rooms, the living area space was dark and run down with stains on the couch, and the outside space was completely public to the street. On Saturday night I left my dogs in the room and went to a fancy fix priced, two course dinner at Galley Beach. Before my main course arrived I had gotten multiple texts and phone calls from the receptionist and manager saying I must come back immediately because my dogs were barking in the room and disturbing the peace of the guests. I said I was an hour away and they asked where I was to which I did not say because I found this to be intrusive. They threatened to displace me if I did not come back right away. I would be more sympathetic if this barking was happening in the middle of the night or early morning but this was a Saturday from 5:30pm to 8pm when most people are up and at drinks or dinners out. I checked out the next day. The Greydon House should change their name to the Never Staydon House. See below pics of the culprits
I'll start by saying that I thought being right in town was what I wanted, that just wasn't the case. It made parking difficult, there was some street noise in the evening, and we probably should have found something a bit further out from downtown. So I cannot complain about those things, as they are out of the Hotels control. Building is immaculate, beautiful, and nicely decorated. John, at the front desk, was helpful, knowledgeable about the island, and a pleasure to get to know. We didn't make it to the restaurant or bar.
