Disappointed. Too much oil and high calorie meals. I love plant based foods but these were not even as good as some frozen meals from the grocery store. Not fresh.

I wanted to Love Purple Carrot. The quality of the prepared meals is very inconsistent. I ordered 7-weeks and tried every recipe multiple times. I’ve attached a video of my favorite meal “Elote-style Creamed Corn. This is the perfect example of why I’m giving a 2-star review. The recipe is wonderful— sweet and spicy on the corn side, but savory on the potato side. Unique ingredients— roasted plantains, pumpkin seeds, roasted corn and bell peppers. Sounds amazing, right? Unfortunately, the quality of the potatoes is hit and miss. They get it right less than 50% of the time. There are times when the potatoes are tender and perfect, there are an equal amount of times they are nearly raw/uncooked, and several times when the color and texture were “off” — like overcooked or expired food product. I hate wasting $13 on a meal that I can’t eat. I could go out and have something made fresh for that. Every delivery Ive received has at least one dish that will go bad within a day of receiving it. This week was the Thai Red Curry, which is my second favorite. Creamy and spicy veggies with brown rice. How do I know it’s bad before even opening it? The plastic film swells like it’s pregnant. I received my order Wednesday, put it in the fridge immediately, and found it ready to burst Thursday afternoon. It’s not just the quality — it’s the actual recipes being significantly different each time you receive it. If you look at the ingredients for this meal, “mung beans” are 5th on the list. I’ve eaten this meal many times where I didn’t realize these beans were an ingredient. I’ve eaten the same meal where the mung beans were as present as the rice — not good at all. The Pesto Portobello Tortellini is another favorite— sometimes — lemon juice is listed at the 12th ingredient nearly at the end of the list — there are times where the lemon is so overwhelming it’s all you can taste. I actually thought it was vinegar. The quality of the broccoli they use is very inconsistent. Sometimes you get beautiful florets and others you get hard, unchewable stalks. It’s so disappointing. The recipes are outstanding, that is why I gave it a 2-star rating. Unfortunately, the food quality and consistency are a 1-star rating. If you were in a restaurant, you would probably send your plate back for something else. These meals are too expensive for these quality issues.

I hope this is the right purple carrot! I recently started using the vegan food service Purple Carrot . First let me say I tried 3 other food services before trying this one. I am a new plant based eater and have tried numerous times but always fail because i just dont know what to cook and get bored. Purple Carrot is by far the best plant based "vegan" meals. They are the turning point for me, im finally able to commit. They give you a few options 1. Meal kits with recipes and all the ingredients including herbs, vegan cheeses etc... everything. If youve ever bought these separately on your own they are a small fortune. The food is delicious even for a former meat eater! They also offer fresh ready made meals- love these! Shitake mushrooms etc... yummy, you pick in the app and can change if you would like something different- totally flexible. Try to at least try 1 do it yourself meal because they give you an awesome recipe book telling you how to make all the vegan meals not just the 1 you purchased. It takes alot of the guess work out of your new lifestyle by measuring protein, fiber, calories for you. I got the 25 dollars off for 4 weeks which was an incentive. So skip the rest and save yourself some money and go straight to purple carrot. Also recently tried their frozen meals at Target, just as good. Really their food tastes really good, cant recommend it enough.

The food is excellent and I would still be a customer if Purple Carrot had better customer service. Had a problem with an order. The only way to contact them is through chat and the representative was short and didn't even try to solve the problem. Instead she just let a new customer cancel their order. With the high cost of customer acquisition you would think service would be a priority. I asked her to relay my concerns to management thinking they would get involved. Not a word from them until a couple weeks later when I received a survey. I relayed my concerns and it asked if someone could contact me. I chose yes. Again, no word. Recommend trying other companies.

BE WARNED ... I purchased this product at Frys and kept it in the freezer until I decided to cook it. I followed the recommended instructions and set my timer to 5 minutes. After 3 1/2 minutes I had a fire in my microwave. I was fortunate to be in the kitchen to notice the bowl and food engulfed in flames. I was able to remove the flaming bowl and began dousing it in the kitchen sink. After I quit shaking.., I did my best to clean the chard microwave. I was hoping that it would look like the new microwave that we had just purchased a year ago. I contacted Purple Carrot and did get a call back thanking me for the information. I was told that there was nothing they could do to compensate me for the microwave but was offered coupons for more Purple Carrot products. I assured them that I would never again bring their product into our home. I would love my microwave to look as it did before I bought their product. I also let them know that I would warm everyone I know to NOT BUY PURPLE CARROT PRODUCTS! I hope Fry's will quit selling them.

I cancelled my subscription twice and this last time they reactivated it without my permission and I didnt find out until a box was delivered to my door. Now i have this trash to deal with and a charge that they refuse to refund. Dont subscribe here without reading very carefully how to cancel your subscription when the time comes.

I really enjoyed how it was already measured out so it felt easier to make however I couldn’t afford it one week so I canceled my subscription and got an email confirmation saying it was canceled and got another order charged. Emailed them with no response and got another order sent. They finally canceled but I didn’t pick my meals so I got 2 deliveries that we didn’t even eat ? I’m so disappointed. I feel like they need to make it easier to find to delete account because I had thought it was done and even emailed for confirmation.

Be careful if redeeming a free box. They’ll charge you for your next box before the free one even arrives so you can decide to subscribe or not. They just tell you your out of luck.

I ordered the first box, and the next day after my delivery, I canceled but was still charged. They said I had to cancel a week and a day before my next delivery, which makes no sense. The food was tasty, but so much work to prepare that it didn't save me any time versus my regular cooking. It was not worth it, and I was so upset that they charged me for a second box. I didn't want that I am never ordering from them again.

I am on a fitness journey back to a healthy lifestyle after fighting depression and anxiety. I used to be vegan and I dropped a lot of weight then just made it my lifestyle for about 5 years. I enjoyed it and figured since I have a large amount of weight to lose I'd go back to what works for me. But I knew I needed help this time so I looked into meal delivery services and found this one. What sold me over all the others was a single recipe. Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The picture looked great. I signed up and after the new customer discounts my order came out to $44 even for 2 meal kits and 2 prepared meals. Unfortunately, the sandwich wasn't one of them. As a matter of fact, the sandwich isn't on the menu for the next month from what I see. Oh well (I thought) it'll come around. Besides, I'm going to use this service for a while. Initially, the site said my order was to arrive 4/4. But something forced it to arrive 4/5. A bit of an inconvenience because I had planned on having those meals that day so I didn't have anything at home. I ended up Frankensteining a pasta dish to get through. When my box did arrive today (4/5) I was SO excited. But that faded when I realized one of my kits were missing ingredients. And I had some extra ingredients that went with nothing in the kits. I reached out to the company via their chat function on their website. They said there were some last minute substitutions at the distribution facility which is why there wasn't any notification. But assured me that mixing the provided veg would equal fajita mix and the seasoning that I thought was the wrong one was actually the same blend as the one listed even though it had a different name. They also issued me a $5 credit because Dijon mustard was missing from my order completely and it was needed for one of the kits. I have to admit, this put me off. But I made the recipe with the ingredients, except I used my own frozen fajita blend I already had. I was the mushroom patty melts and they turned out ok. Could have used more seasoning or if it was the Cajun seasoning instead of the new England seasoning it might have been better. The cole slaw wasn't for me though. Too much dill so I'd use less next time. Overall, I was happy because I was full and I can see that the service will do what I was hoping in that it'll give me new vegan meal ideas. So I told myself I'd give it a month and if I'm not happy after I'd cancel. I REALLY don't like that substitutions are made without notice since I'm trying to lose weight and it makes me worry about how it changes the nutritional information. But they do provide an abundance of certain ingredients so you might even have some leftover that you didn't count on. And I was surprised to find out that they provide a whole bulb of garlic regardless of whether your meal kit(s) call for it. There's some up and down that I'm seeing here. But this is the first meal delivery service I've used so I'm not going to be too harsh. Hopefully, this first order was a one off and it goes seamlessly from now on.

$13 for a 500 calorie prepared microwavable vegan meal. Are you [censored] me? I mean, I'm probably the idiot for shelling out, but we are desperately searching for a meal delivery service on a temporary basis. Will look elsewhere. I don't even need to try to the food, the boxes showed up and I looked at the packages. Not enough food.

Purple Carrot is not a perfect service. It is one of the few vegan-only meal delivery services that provides meals that the customer prepares (not pre-prepared meals). I have used them for a few years. While they have improved some, for much of that time, it seemed like at least one meal a month had issues (missing ingredients, spoiled ingredients). It used to be fairly easy to get a credit for these issues, but it has gotten harder. They now want photos. How do I show a frozen cucumber, which looks like a cucumber.Recently, they have raised their rates. I understand this, as inflation is moderately high. But they have raised their rates a SECOND time by effectively eliminating their free shipping. The free shipping isn't gone, there is a new minimum purchase to get it. Unfortunately for me, there is nothing extra I can realistically order to get the free shipping. I'm single, and 6 meals/week is all I need. Their breakfast and lunch options just don't work for me. And their pantry items are a joke. Almost always sold out, and few options. I need to spend another $20/week to get the free shipping, and that would be a waste of my money. The shipping charge is $10, effectively a SECOND rate hike in less than 6 months.Their food is good. Many meals are excellent. But between shipment issues (mentioned above), making it harder to address these issues, and a couple rate hikes in rapid succession, I CAN"T recommend this service. Also, their shipment tracking SUCKS! They often state the delivery is on time, and it doesn't arrive that day. This makes it difficult to plan - am I going to get a food delivery? Or do I need to make other plans for dinner (often last minute). They also implemented the shipping rate hike when it was too soon to get a shipment from a different vendor. Very poor customer service.

If it were possible I would give Purple Carrot a minus zero review. I started ordering from them sometime last year. Each and every order came with issues, i.e., spoiled vegetables, missing ingredients etc. I stopped using Purple Carrot. Mid Dec 2022; I looked on their website, I DID NOT PLACE AN ORDER. That Sunday, I received a text indicating I had a food delivery arriving the following week. I was billed for $106.00 for the food; which I did not receive. When I set up a dispute, with my credit card company; I was informed; once Purple Carrot has your credit card number they can charge your account, even if you open the website to browse. I hope this review was informational for potential new customers. I wish I known. Lessons learned.
