Chicken was horrible slimy with pink. The rice was over cooked and soft. The empanadas had little no no meat all your taste was oil and dough. Don’t recommend.

The food here is pretty decent. Not the best Dominican food I’ve ever had, not the worst. The restaurant is cafeteria style, like most Dominican places, with a large dining room for those who want to eat in. They also have a good-sized bar serving alcoholic drinks, which is a pretty big advantage in the Latin food market in the area. However, in my opinion, I can get better Dominican food at La Candela for a cheaper price, although Celia’s has more options to choose from.

Ordered a take out through door dash because I was on lunch break. Waited without acknowledgement from staff at the special area for pick up. After a few min someone came to help. I guess the staff decided I would like something different then what I ordered because thats what I got. Wanted pernil, got chicken. So I ate the salad and a few bites of dry rice.

I don’t think I have ever had a bad meal at Celia’s, and I was coming here before Obama was in office, so that should tell you everything you need to know.
Oxtail, pernil, ribs, goat, chicharron, beef patties, pastelitos, maduros, mangu, rice, salad… you name it, it is GOOD here.
Cash only. Dine in is best to have it while it’s hot but they gotta lower the music. It’s a restaurant, not a club. Legit my only complaint. Other than that no notes.

I was very surprised by the amount of space inside.. when you drive by, it seems so small, and folks are always going in/out as if there is no seating available.
However, it was very loud between the music playing and whichever sporting event was playing above the bar area. Unfortunately, I do not speak Spanish, and this seemed to be a bit of an issue with the young lady that was serving myself and my friend. He spoke Spanish beautifully.. she seemed a little annoyed when I had to ask what the entrees were, and I didn't recognize them right off. I'm sorry, even though I love Spanish/Dominican foods... I can't tell which is pork and which is goat.
The food was delicious and enough for lunch that day and dinner the following day.
The portions were big, and the price, I would guess, was comparable.. I don't eat out a lot, and when i do, it's breakfast.
Overall, it was pretty good.

Just go here. You will leave completely full of delicious food. The people who work here are willing to answer any questions and help you decide what you want to eat if you are not super familiar with the food. Great food and fantastic service. Oh, and that is not even mentioning the prices! Unbelievable value. If I could give them more stars, I would.
Maybe one of the best places to eat in New Bedford. Every time I visit New Bedford or the Cape, this is a must stop for us. The goat, ox tails, stewed chicken, pork, EVERYTHING IS GREAT!!! We were driving back from a whale watch on the Cape and even though it was almost closing time when I called, they waited for and stayed open for us. The staff is very friendly and the casual atmosphere, with music playing, makes for a great lunch or dinner out. Don't miss Celia's on your next trip to New Bedford. Much better than any of the restaurants on the water and much more affordable. Dinner for 3 was $42 and we had 3 plates overflowing with delicious Dominican food.
