Kid-friendliness: I enjoyed the atmosphere. The music choice was nice. There was one waiter and he did an excellent job.

The food was good. Per my friend who lived in Russia, it was very authentic. Service seemed good, but ironically, my Russian speaking friend's meal was forgotten, and he had to wait an additional 30 min for his food. This was with little admitting of a mistake or adjustment in the bill. Should have been adjusted for the total neglect. Additionally, 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill, in spite of the service issue. Can't highly recommend.

We had a wake here, the food was awful and so is the service. They charged a lot for family style and promised plenty to serve. After all served very little, extremely slow. The appetizers were from store jars, and the hot dishes they stated to serve when people were living. They overcharged, taking advantage over other people's mourning and in extremely difficult time. My strong belief, 5 star reviews below are all fake, impossible to rate this place as 5 star.

The food was excellent as well as the service. I wish there were more Russian restaurants in Boston to compare to. I had beef stroganoff, chicken liver pâté, and various infused vodkas.

Have been coming to this restaurant for many years. However this time it was very disappointing; Our reservations were for 7:00 pm we were sited right away. But the appetizers were served an hour and a half later (8:30p), When ordering drinks we were informed that the restaurant has run out of 'Cognac' and some of the appetizers that we ordered. the main course was not served until nine thirty (9:30p). The waiter kept apologizing. This was a Saturday night usually the busiest day of the week this was very disappointing. As I said we have been patrons of this restaurant for many years and never ever had this happen to us. I think we will think twice before returning to this restaurant in the future...

It's nestled behind other buildings in Newton centre. As others have said, the service can be tough. Just expect to be patient because it's just one person managing everything from drinks, food, reception, clean up and etc. The food is good and some dishes are better than others. Borscht was good and the chicken was delicious. Highly recommend the chicken and potatoes. Coincidentally we were there with a large family and piano player. So we had singing and dancing although out our dinner.

I tried borscht for the first time here, and it's still one of the best things I've ever eaten. It was warm, comforting, and so flavorful. I also got the chicken shashlik, which was perfectly cooked and very filling!
