Great experience overall. Staff is wonderful and food was exceptional. Had a variety of tacos and the carnitas took the win. Chips and salsa were great! Ordered a regular margarita and asked for a specific repassado but they up charged an additional $16, on top the of the price for the margarita. Bit pricy for one margarita but it was good. Would go back again but get only a house tequila in the margarita.

I really like this place. The atmosphere is nice and so are the staff. The food took a little while to come out. The food looks pretty, but the portion sizes were a little disappointing and it tasted alright. It is a little pricey for the quality.

Friendly and accommodating staff that contributed to a great food and beverage experience. Try the Sangria option and soft tacos!

Cannot recommend. The service was beyond slow- they were terribly understaffed, and while I know that happens, it’s on the management to then not fill every table in the restaurant. The table next to us waited over 30 minutes for their salsa. Our drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive, and when we arrived the restaurant was not full. Management needs to either hire more people or limit their capacity when they are understaffed, otherwise it looks like they’re more interested in maximizing profits than giving a good experience. Unfortunately we were both disappointed. Food and atmosphere were decent and the servers did their best to be friendly, but I recommend taking your business elsewhere.

Food was average. Service was very slow. The restaurant was full and very noisy. It was really hard to talk to each other.

Inattentive service. The only way to get service was to flag someone down. I waited 20 minutes for a coke. 30 for chips and salsa (which we paid for? Unusual for a Mexican restaurant.) The tacos arrived 5 minutes after the chips. The tacos were decent but not better than any local competing Mexican restaurants. The rice was crunchy which is inexcusable. You have to have the basics down. The margaritas looked nice; undoubtedly where the efforts are spent. The ambiance was understandably attempting to be calming (rivers/ziggurats on the tv) as I was quickly losing my patience. I won't be returning.

We tried Mexicalito for lunch yesterday, and one of us ended up getting a brunch item as well. The food was delicious and flavorful, and the handmade tortillas were a treat! So thankful for the fantastic vegetarian options as well! Jose takes care of you! Thanks for a delightful meal, we’ll be back!

Mexcalito took our group of 25 at short notice, and managed to turn out good food with kind service.

Service was quite good and it wasn't expensive for the kind of place it is.We started with the chips+salsa. The chips look like they were made in-house with their tortillas: a bit thicker than the store-bought ones but with a really nice crunch. Could maybe have used a bit of salt. The salsa verde was pretty good but the red salsa didn't have all that much flavor.I'm not sure what people like so much about the sopes. They come as little corn cups, and they are so hard that eating them is difficult, although the meat filling with the sour cream and lettuce was quite tasty.Got two tacos as a main; I can't say too much interesting about them other than that the meat is nice and tender although a bit underseasoned. One oddity is that each was presented as a really quite generous helping atop a single large tortilla, so eating it without spillage nor breakage was a bit hard. Many other restaurants serve tacos with two, smaller, tortillas that one can spread the filling over, making it easier to eat. (I very much can't complain about the amount of food per taco, though!)I was in the middle of a long drive so I didn't sample their extensive tequila and mezcal selection, although I wish I had...Anyhow, I can't say "avoid" (especially if you like a large selection of tequila!) but I don't think I'll go back.

Would give 3.5 stars if that was an option. The main stuff, our meals, was quite good. I had a three taco platter (1 Pastor, 1 Carne Asada, 1 Chorizo), and my spouse had a rice bowl. Everything was fresh and tasty. The salsas that came with the tortilla chips (note that these cost extra, but a not unreasonable 4 bucks) were also enjoyable but the chips themselves require comment. They could best be described as, um, sturdy. The chips were thicker and crunchier than any tortilla chip we have ever experienced, but not really in a good way. Prior to our visit, I did scoff at one review complaining about the chips being too "sharp". Now I completely understand. The other downside was the wine. They only had no-name blends of either red or white. The wine itself was fine (I had a beer and my wife drank the wine), but the issue was the pour - the smallest glass of wine I have ever seen served in a restaurant. Will likely go back for another go, but pass on the chips.

Went out to Mexcalito with some friends before a concert. A new restaurant in Northampton, so we thought we would give it a shot. Whoops. Starting out with the positive: the atmosphere was pleasant, and because it was a Saturday night it was relatively full of happy people. Unfortunately, we did not leave happy. We were seated at a table, but were not approached by anybody - - for drinks, water, anything - - for over 30 minutes. We finally stopped somebody on the way by and asked if we could find a server, and it took another 10 minutes before we were approached by anyone. She was actually a very pleasant waitress, and apologetic about the wait. We ordered a standard appetizer: chips, salsa, and guacamole. The chips were horrible - - stale, brittle, and they seem to be cooked in a bad smelling oil. The four of us agreed that it felt a little like chewing on broken lightbulbs. Even though we were quite hungry when it was brought, none of us could eat more than one or two chips before we abandoned them untouched on the table. The two salsas were very bland and thin, seemingly made without spice of any kind. We each ordered three tacos for our entrée, but the waitress returned to our table twice after our order to tell us that they were out of two of the tacos that we had ordered. When we finally received the tacos, they also were bland and indistinctive. We agreed that the combination portobello, goat cheese and balsamic in a Mexican dish was odd, but it was the only vegetarian option remaining on the menu. $160 later, we left the restaurant, still hungry, shocked, still feeling the grit from the broken lightbulbs in our teeth. and late for our concert. If you have any interest in sampling the food at Mexcalito in Northampton, I would recommend that you go soon, because if other people have a similar experience , it will not be there long. It was a huge disappointment.

We are vegetarian, and one of us has Celiac Disease. We all did very well. Service was good, but nothing special. The atmosphere is weird - like it doesn't quite know what it wants to be.
