When the Lantern was suggested for lunch by a friend, I expected to have to choose between mozzarella sticks, hamburgers (yes they are known for them) or hot wings. Goodness, I was very wrong. Under apparently new ownership, they have a limited but very creative menu that ascribes to the salt fat acid heat mantra with amazing results. I had the fried eggplant sandwich with garlic roasted tomatoes, pickled zukes, feta mayo on a cheese ciabatta. One of the best sandwiches in my life, and I'm old. The waitress was the wonderfully chatty and sassy "Hon" type which made the experience even better. The patrons that day were regulars, women who lunch and o/o towners. What a nice mix. And I'll bet they all left happy. The problem is that I work in Pittsfield and could become addicted to their lunches...

They don’t treat people well. Walked into the Lantern on Tuesday with our family of 5 for lunch. Place was completely empty. We were approached by a waitress and I commented how we had five people but there were only tables of 4. She commented that it was the way they had to do it. I said ok, the “kids can sit at a separate table” and she refused us. They refused to separate a family into two tables so that they could make money. We were shocked that they would refuse to separate us into two tables in order take care of people wanting to patronize their restaurant. They LOST MONEY. Our bill would have been at least $100 and we would have ordered drinks with our lunch. Did I mention the place was completely empt? Shameful and the owners should rethink their policy.

We heard of this place through some blogs and magazines. Went on a Friday evening at 6:00. It was pretty empty inside but it’s nice out and a couple of people were eating outside and it was art walk night. It’s nice and open now on the inside unlike the picture. All adult drinks are $6.00. The cheese burgers are little 3 oz sliders but you get 2 to an order. They are good. I had the triple and it was better but the pimento cheese burger was by far the best of the 3 we tried. The tots were yummy. The Panna cotta with smoked cherries was excellent and must be tried.. the sweet and smoke went together brilliantly. The staff was great. Very friendly. Overall a very good meal and good New England selection of beverages. It’s a cool spot in Pittsfield.

The Lantern is one of the best restaurants in the Berkshires. Whether it’s classics like the Twin Bacon Burgers or more creative dishes like Kim Chi Brined Fried Chicken or Kohlrabi Green Olive Caesar, everything is absolutely delicious. Don’t let the gorgeous old fashioned tavern setting fool you, this is not your typical neighborhood pub. While you can select from what feels like a gazillion beers on tap or have an expertly made cocktail, this is a neighborhood restaurant with solid cooking! Hard to do simple, honest yet creative food...but The Lantern nails it!!!

This tavern has great atmosphere with jazz music recorded for background listening. The hamburger was one of the best I've eaten. The service is great. It has a full bar. Located near Berkshire theater company productions. Very convenient.
