Valentine’s Day Dinner 2025 @ The Bistro at Mirbeu
Our Experience – Round 2
The last time we had been to The Bistro was Valentine’s Day three years ago. The food was dry and overcooked (especially the chicken under a brick), so the experience left a bad taste in our mouth. We decided to give it another try this year as we thought it might have been a once off bad performance the first visit.
Have to say The Bistro topped it off this time with another set menu debacle.
We each ordered Raw Oyster’s which came on a slate with no side rims. The oyster juice’s rolled off the slate and ran across table almost onto our laps. Our waitress was overwhelmed and service was somewhat slow, so took a while to get her to wipe table down. Next came the main course, a steak & butternut squash risotto. I asked for the steak to be pink through, not well done. Steak came out like a burnt hockey puck and must have been sitting on grill for a long time as they had a set menu. The butternut squash risotto was thick & creamy with chunks of something that tasted like garlic. I had a bite and it was inedible. We expressed to the waitress that our food was unsatisfactory. She told us she was sorry that we didn’t like the food. We were expecting her to address the situation but realized she didn’t understand the issue. While having our desert, which was delicious – the Chef came firing out of the kitchen with a check in his hand and confronted 2 guests who were dissatisfied with their meal and didn’t want to pay. It was so shocking to see the a very animated chef in the lobby right in front of the restaurant customers making a scene. We could clearly hear the chef yell “I have cooked 40 steaks tonight and not one person has complained” Amazing display of audacity!
Next our waitress came by with our check and threw it across our table with a look of anger. Did NOT address us or thank us and stormed away. We took the high road and tipped 20% anyway. Understanding that our server was young and needs to learn how to act professionally in representing a restaurant that considers itself a resort & spa as well.
At that point we decided that we would not say anything to the manager on duty and I would call the following Monday to express my displeasure with our meal.
On Monday, Feb 17th, I called and spoke to a restaurant manager (who wasn’t on duty Feb 14th). After giving her the exact description of our dinner as described above: she replied that she was “Sorry we didn’t have a good experience, and would pass it on to a senior manager.”

Good, Servers and hostess were great . My only issue was when we got to the Bistro . They did not have my reservation that I made through the OpenTable app. This is the first time it has happened not sure why .
As an seasoned traveler who has visited spas worldwide, I highly recommend this hotel and spa, which ranks among the most accommodating venues I've visited. The staff's dedication to providing an exceptional experience is admirable. The culinary delights and expertly mixed cocktails are truly outstanding. The property's design masterfully evokes the charm of the French countryside, with the ocean conveniently accessible. The year-round outdoor aqua terrace is an impressive feature that further enhances the overall experience!
Very rude and some of the staff seemed confused. Too bad, my wife and I used to come here alot.

I made a reservation to celebrate a family member’s birthday. We ordered mimosas on a hot day. They were not very cold and while it was the traditional mimosa, it was mostly champagne and a splash of OJ. Not very creative for the price. My Caesar salad and grilled salmon were nothing to write home about. The service was good. We dined outdoors and the atmosphere was lovely. No music though. For the price, the food is not what I would ever return for. Quite disappointed.

Everything here is top notch, we haven’t had a bad meal yet. They have a very nice wine selection and wonderful sommeliers on staff, you won’t go wrong under their advisement. If you have the chance to be sat with Karen you’re sure to have the best experience out in a long time, she was one of the best servers I’ve had. She has the right balance of friendly hospitality, menu and allergy knowledge, and anticipates any need you have. It’s truly a seamless experience at her table.
Dietary restrictions: The kitchen is wonderful at accommodating allergies, in my case gluten.

Simply a nice spot to relax on wind and remind ourselves we’re only on this earth for a short period of time make the most of it
Very unique place to eat. The menu is to the point and everything had great flavor. The short rib appetizer was so filling I skipped my dinner order. Only issue we had was my girlfriend ordered medium well filet mignon and it was well done for the most part.

All the appetizers were delicious including the salads, but the rest of the food was so-so. Service was slow and disinterested as was the host at check-in. The food was not indicative of French Bistro fare as advertised.
We went for my wife's Birthday. We sat at the bar for a drink and was served by Corey. Corey is very professional and friendly. He makes great drinks !. We sat and our server was Kayla. Kayla was great. Personality plus. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and pairing. I started with French onion soup. To be honest, I was disappointed. The soup was hot, but very bland. I would expect more from a French Bistro. I gave it a 5 out of 10. My wife started with the tomato bisque. She really like it. My main course was the lobster ravioli. This dish was phenomenal. 10 out of 10 for sure. My wife got the Filet Mignon and ordered it medium. It was a good cut of meat, but was served well done. I feel for the $68 price, it should be cooked they way you order it. Desserts were very good. Fresh and delicious ! Add a Cappuccino and dessert wine and all is good. My overall evaluation was an 8 out of 10. I will go back and do recommend it.
