Wow, has this place gone downhill! Overpriced and worst of all, rude, nasty service. Why a bartender would treat patrons the way he did is beyond me. Never again. We visit P-Town every year for bear week. Took friends there on their first trip to P-Town. All four of use said we will never go there again.

It is all about the journey to Provincetown and it always, always, a trip to the Monkey Bar. I have been a patron for almost 10 years. The energy, music, delicious meals that transport you to another realm, perpetual smiles of the crowd, and the closeness of the establishment. I call it a home away from home. An escape. A Smokey Monkey cocktail, Khao Soi, Red Hot Chili Peppers Sushi Roll, The Out of the World Potstickers, and an Espresso Martini, a perfect time for me at the Monkey Bar. Don’t forget to peak your head around and step into Johnny’s Thai Bistro; another amazing experience. See you there!

I loved mostly everything about the 'Monkey Bar' - the vibe, the lighting, the seating, service, food, and noise level....but the dealbreaker for me was when I got the bill I my Manhattan cocktail was $28!!!! There are no prices on the menu except for 'drinks are $19 and up' - so be careful when ordering your drink. I have never paid anywhere near that much for a Manhattan anywhere!!! And it wasn't particularly special....It felt like a sneaky rip-off to me. Usually when I encounter this kind of practice in a business I usually end up no longer supporting them....not sure I'll be back....:-(

Still infuriated by the $85 bill I got for 3 cocktails at this place. Gay tourist trap; avoid at all costs.
Very good portions of food. Nice place to hang out and have some drinks.

We have always enjoyed the vibe here. This year though, when we ordered cocktails only to be charged $24 per cocktail, that changed things for me.
Atmosphere is great, bartenders are wonderful...but the prices are insane. $26 for a cocktail?? Even when called out on this, and directed to a less-expensive vodka...$24. This is nuts.

Reviewing the bar: This was a favorite spot for years. It was a great “dive” bar and had such a fun and friendly atmosphere. However, this latest visit was extremely disappointing. The place felt like a cheap dated disco - shiny walls and led lights. But the biggest issue was the cost of the drinks (the menu did not list prices) and the drinks were terrible. For two sangria-based drinks, the bill came to $50, not including tip. Insane.

Its a big no for me too. Martini menu looked great but no prices. Menu said they serve a full 10oz martini as if no one else serves a full pour. I ordered an expresso martini and when they rung it up they called it a "double". Was in shock when they charged me $20. And ... it was premixed in the back and watered down. I've ordered top shelf martinis anywhere else in PTown and the most I paid was $18 and no one called their martini a double or watered it down. If you really like martinis skip the Monkey Bar! PS bottle of water was $9. Most I paid for water in PTown bars was $5 at Tea Dance. So the owner answered below. Here is my reply....you are wrong about no one serves a full martini....only you don't. And BTW I was there during your Happy Hour. Obviously my assumption that drinks would be discounted was wrong. Buyer beware. Its all hype and no sizzle.

I have been coming to P-town for decades but had never been to the Monkey Bar before. I had dinner there one night during the week of the 4th of July holiday. I didn't order an alcoholic drink there and, from what I've read in other reviews since, I'm glad I didn't. Unfortunately, I did order food. In my opinion, it was mediocre at best and definitely not worth the money. I see no reason to ever go back there.
