Now called "Black Cat Diner" was your typical hole in the wall diner that served good old fashioned breakfast food. The building was very 1940s/1950s and very cool. Made our vacation a little special having breakfast in a cool old real diner.

I just made a special trip here on June 26, 2024 after reading all the great reviews here. It is now the Black Cat Diner, no indication it was recently Deb's Diner (except the Deb's Diner t-shirt the cook was wearing). I have no idea when it changed hands. I was the only customer in there at 6:30am.
After being handed a crinkled dirty plain paper menu, I ordered plain scrambled eggs, figuring those couldn't be too bad. But after going to use the filthy dark scary basement restroom where I saw the food storage bins right nearby, I came back upstairs, cancelled my order and asked for the coffee to go. When the waitress said it was $3.45, I said I am not paying that much for a coffee and I walked out. What a horrid experience.

Literally in love with this place!! We walked in and were immediately treated like regulars. Waitress was charismatic and friendly. Food is awesome! Place of locals for sure!! I got French toast with peanut butter, Nutella, and marshmallow fluff. My mom got a veggie omelet with potatoes. Everything was phenomenal!!! Building says “Pilgrims Diner” which was confusing at first but I’m glad we still decided to come in and try food!

This is an old school diner in every way. The entire place is one row of bar seats, 3 booths and 1 set of chairs. The food is classic, greasy, filling and worth the price. We got the veggie omelette and the eye opener. The omelet was filled with vegetables and the potatoes were seasoned to be devoured. The eye opener is two eggs two (meat) we got bacon, home fries, a big pancake and a cup of coffee.

We’re from Pittsburgh and visit Salem every year for a long weekend and we eat breakfast at Deb’s every single day of our trip. It’s our favorite diner of all time…love the vibe..the food is always super delicious and the staff is the absolute BEST!!! We feel like family when we eat here. Make sure you order a grilled muffin!!
